Zone Builder Issues

Hi, I attempted to use Zone Builder about a month or two ago to make a level. I downloaded the zone builder application and then the SRB2
asset pack from the download page. I followed the tutorial to get it set up, but when I try to make a new map, an error pops up. I tried closing it and restarting my pc but I still got the same error. Does anyone know a solution or have any useful info?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectX
DirectX is a collection of APIs. DirectX 9 is just a specific version of this bundle.
Windows comes with DirectX 10 and 11 pre-installed and they automatically update.

Zone Builder requires version 9 of this to be able to run. The program will automatically recognize if it is installed. You don't need to do anything else.

Thanks

Thanks a lot! I’ll do this when I get the chance. I’ve forgot most of my zonebuilder knowledge so I’m gonna have to rewatch Seventh Sentinel’s tutorials. One last thing, does anyone know if I am able to add my own textures to zonebuilder? I can do without that feature, but I’ve been making pixel art and I could make my own things for my level.

You can add your own textures, yes.
That is, you can either create the map file, close Zone Builder then add the textures and flats to the file through SLADE, or create a separate WAD/PK3 with SLADE containing your textures and flats, then adding them as a resource when ZB prompts it.

DirectX 9 problems

you may need to download some directX 9 packages. even if you have a dx10 or dx11, you may not have them on your machine

you can get it from microsoft's website here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35&44F86079-8679-400C-BFF2-9CA5F2BCBDFC=1

I tried installing directx 9.0 c from the Microsoft website, but it says that it can’t be installed on windows 10, and that it must run on Windows 98, xp, or other outdated windows versions. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Finally

I finally found out how to install directx and zonebuilder is working for me now! Now all I have to do is watch tutorials for 3 hours and I’ll be good to go. This thread is done now, and thanks for all the info!
