Welcome to the September-December 2006 contest. The lack of the colon in the subject is due to being at the limit of characters for a topic subject. September has one more letter than November ;_;

The voting works as follows: Play a few games of the stage in question, in the intended gametype for judging, and give the map a vote from 0 to 10. You can not vote on your own map. Votes where the voter obviously did not play the level in its intended gametype will be discarded. To encourage voting, if you are an author and you judge all of the competitor's maps, the lowest score on your map will be dropped. Please be as unbiased as possible for the author or the look of the map. It's all about how good the map plays, nothing else.

Although it's not necessary, it's very helpful to make comments about what you liked and didn't like about the map, so the author can improve his skill for future attempts.

Judging will end January 9th at midnight GMT (January 8th, 7:00 PM EST). The scores will be then averaged, and the person with the highest score is the winner.

The maps follow:

There are no single player contest entries this time. Should have made one, you'd have won by default.

Map 01: Tad too big. But still a great match. 9/10

Map 02: Identical rooms. However the centre room is different. 8/10

Map 03: Even though there are all items on map. They are all unaccessable unless JTE modded HMS123311 comes around and snags them all. It's sort of a maze. 7/10

Map 04: Impossible to get out of quicksand as sonic. 6/10

Map 05: Level Name wraps. Due to thin trees. Easy to be exposed.

Map 06: Well balanced. Looks very much like SRB2's maps. Filler areas for decoration. 9/10

Map 07: "Ooooooooh! What's down there" *Falls down bottomless pit*. Seriously, It takes time to notice something down there only to find out it is a death pit. The first time. I thought that there would be a item down there. But instead it's a death pit. Weather seems to be Thunder and rain. 7/10

Map 08: Areas split into three sections. Much easier to avoid jumping off waterfall (as long as someone else doen't snipe you on contact.) Rocks in on section camaflarge you. 9/10 (Terrific work Neo)

Map 09: Quite Dangerous in the lava level. You might be trying to evade someone in Tag. And just as soon as that happens. You get hit by lava. The good things about it involves the color of the area turning red whenever lava goes down the sector. 8/10 (Excellent Job Furious)

Map 10: Another dangerous one. Slightly more dangerous that the one before. The lower route would be more used so it's best to guard that route. With your temmate guarding the flag. 6/10

Map 11: Mixture of Aerial Garden and Winter texture/flats. Many Bottomless pits. It is a good idea to get used to maps like this. 7/10

Map 12: Pinball area. Pretty straight forward level 10/10 (Incredible JJames19119)

Map 13: Colormapped area to look like the sun is setting. I once backtracked by accident. 8/10

Map 14: There seems to be missing textures in some places. I kind of dislike maps that defy the laws of physics but then again do like them. Thok abusing because of a straight forward circuit. 4/10 (Sorry Spazzo)

You know something isn't right, when a contest has this little amount of wads in it, after a frikken 4 month period of submission.

that's becuase noobs spend too much time releasing 3-sector levels and/or poorly exicuted soc's to read any other forum.

My excuse to not entering is that I forgot, and I've been busy with my MMORPG, Revolution Online

Spazzo took the words right out of my mouth. Hopefully that long period of time didn't give people more time to make levels, but more time to make their level's exceedingly better. *tries them out*

Actually, this contest's match maps look like it'll be a very good and close race. However, the CTF and Circuit divisions look...empty and uncontested.

What happened to my Castleon entry? Did someone enter Castleon in the past or something?

Also I've played the CTF stages but no judgement will be passed as the teams were uneven on purpose.

I will remind everyone that we do not use fractional votes here. Any decimal will be rounded to the nearest whole number. This is not 60%=F, people. 5=C. Use all the numbers you have. Try multiplying all your votes by 2 and subtracting 10, camo man.

Yes, the results are depressing this contest. I could have told you that months ago. No one is entering anything, and honestly if we don't get enough entries next contest we may simply have to call the contest until interest picks up again.

Another dark age for Srb2? :\

I played through the match maps, half of them sucked honestly. Oh well. Voting will come soon.

I had a map ready for October, but then your email died and I forgot to resend it for this, and then I made a map about fifteen hours before the contest ended but didn't get a chance to send it in.

Besides, Mystic, as soon as you cancel the contests again, we'll all start bitching about how we want the contests back.

Re: Official Level Design Contest Voting September-December

Here are my votes

Match:
MAP01 - Shortcake Mountain Zone by SRB2-Playah:
I actually liked playing on this map, It looked like it could be in the official Srb2 wad. The only Gripe I had with this, Was falling off the mountain alot. It was sorta, Troublesome getting back to the top. But overall, Nice map. - 85/100

MAP02 - DK64-Battle Zone by Mariosonic
This map was alright, Although I had more trouble on this map.
1) some floors were not showing up
2) I kept falling through them
3) I couldnt get out of them (real problem)
Overall, This map is not all that good. Plus it was based off another map. - 45/100

MAP03 - Glaber Base 3 Zone by Glaber
Ugh... This map had small hallways in it... I had trouble moving around. - 30/100

MAP04 - Desert in the Sky by 1-Up
Wow, This map was slightly better than the last two maps. This map has a neat Floating platform, and some places to hide from fire. It was alright. the only problem with this map was the quicksand, You should have put a spring so someone can escape from it. - 75/100

MAP05 - Winter Forest Zone by Lloyd ???? [zen_the_hedgehog@yahoo.com]
Okay, this map had just a few problems...
There were Not enough rings placed on the map, and it felt like the trees were really small and cramped together. But I liked the house. - 60/100

MAP06 - Ivory Square Zone by Digiku
Ah, Nice big open space... I like that, Plus the rings were placed Equally. Great job with this map Digiku! - 80/100

MAP07 - Plughole by Oogaland
Heheh, This was a fine map, I enjoyed the water in the map. Although, I didnt know what those Yellow and black things did in the middle of the map. I think it was supposed to plug the hole or something, lol - 75/100

MAP08 - Central Control Zone by Neo Chaotikal
Oh, this was a neat map. I felt like I was on vacation. The map layout was very Nice, and I liked the beach. I also did see some problems in the map.
Some of the map had messed up Floor textures, like when you look at the map closely, Some of the floor is gone... What's up with that? - 70/100

MAP09 - Volcanic Cavern Zone by FuriousFox
Ah, This map was also good. I like how the lava worked in the map and how the level layout was.
Although, a few problems.
The rings were spaced a little far apart. And the lava with the floating block, hardly rose. I think I saw it only rise about 3 times. - 80/100

Capture the Flag
MAP10 - Magma Cavern Zone by Flame the Hedgehog
This map was mine, I had a few testers for this map and they gave me suggestions on how I can improve this map, and So I did. I threw in my own Ideas, plus, I like to make fire themed levels. - N/A (This was My map, Remember :P)

MAP11 - Azure Frost Zone by JJames19119
Okay, I was surprised when I saw this map. It was VERY well done, and I liked how the map was styled, it was like a CTF map of AGZ from Mystic Realm. Although, I had trouble finding the other teams base. You should add some more ways to get to the other team base. - 90/100

MAP12 - Card Carnival Zone by JJames19119
This map was also great!, It was like, I was in Vegas. This map was also good to play on. The only thing I didnt like was the Bouncey room. It kept bouncing me away when I was trying to get the flag. But I did like the dash pannels in the middle of the map. - 80/100

Circuit
MAP13 - Sunset Gardens Zone by Flame the Hedgehog
HAhaha, Another map made by me. This was sort of like a map, continued from Jjames' morning gardens zone. I like how It came out and looks similar to Jjames' map. - N/A (It's my map :P)

MAP14 - Mario Circuit 2 by Spazzo
Okay, Couple of things.
I did see this map before but it used diffrent textures, and the walls were messed up, What the hell happened there?
It still was a good map to race on, I must admit. - 50/100 (Sorry spazz)

I have a question...Can anyone participate in the voting or it it just limited to certain people? *shot*

Anyone may participate. I will note that if it's determined that they didn't actually play the level in the intended gametype (Not playing match against another person, for instance) their vote will be discounted. So go play them in a match game and start voting.

Match

MAP01 - Shortcake Mountain Zone by SRB2-Playah: 7/10
Having many rings in this map didn't hurt too bad, though I had a bit of trouble finding players. The indoor cave was neat, though you could make the pillars a bit easier to get on. Plus, I'm not too found with getting to the infinite ring. But lots of rings makes auto easy to use. An decent map.

MAP02 - DK64-Battle Zone by Mariosonic
: 1/10
This map is good in its own game, but it doesn't belong in SRB2. See Level Design 101. Also, I found myself getting tuck in the stairs when running up them.

MAP03 - Glaber Base 3 Zone by Glaber: 0/10
See Level Design 101.

MAP04 - Desert in the Sky by 1-Up: 4/10
Hard to navigate with Sonic, plus you can't even get the Rail weapon with Sonic. I kind of haven't played this too much though, so this review may change.

MAP05 - Winter Forest Zone by Lloyd ???? [zen_the_hedgehog@yahoo.com]: 4/10
This map was basically item box world, but at least I had some fun with them. But there just isn't any notable thing here that makes it good.

EDIT: Since I probably won't play the contest wad again at all, I decided to end my voting here.

I liked Glaber Base, but only ring boxes, no shields? Card Carnival owns, but it looks like a Vargr vomited on it.

The quicksand that everyone is complainin' about in my map is escapable. I put teleport sectors in the corners of the quicksand that take you to the sniping post.
This gives you a way to the special rings. You just didn't look hard enough. I use knux usually, so yes it is a better map for them.
