NES Mario jumped straight out of Super Mario Bros. to join the race.
Unfortunately, he didn't realize the karts were so big in sprite size, so he's really tiny and as such, really light. But he's also really fast to make up for it.

He has a speed of 8 and a weight of 1.

I really think you could have scaled him higher just fine, and I feel not even being in between max speed and accel goes against what Mario is supposed to be, but I guess it technically has enough spriting done to not make it a sprite rip pasted over a kart, so it can go in releases.
