It happened in Arid Canyon 2, the second time I failed the minecart section and Sonic acted as though I was telling him to strafe. I got confused and noticed the button configuration for 'left' was completely empty. so i changed it back to my configuration originally. It didn't work, and neither did exiting the game entirely.
