"...What?"
I don't often read the paper, but this particular story in the New York Times caught my attention. It chronicles the capture and captivity of a journalist by the Taliban, and his eventual escape. Here are the appropriate links:

Part One - http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/18/world/asia/18hostage.html
Part Two - http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/19/world/asia/19hostage.html
Part Three - http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/20/world/asia/20hostage.html
Part Four - http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/21/world/asia/21hostage.html
Part Five - http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/22/world/asia/22hostage.html
Epilogue - http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/22/world/asia/22epilogue.html

Now, this is quite a long series of articles, so I don't recommend trying to read it all in one sitting. I have yet to finish the whole thing myself, to be honest.
