Multiplayer Levels Scripts Re-Useable Content Sprites/Graphics

Kart Mania is a collection of maps made by me. Originally slated for Super SRB2 Kart Z, this level pack has since received an overhaul, as well as entirely new maps designed with SRB2Kart’s engine in mind.

Now as for the maps, they’ve been organized into several cups, much like vanilla SRB2Kart’s tracks. These being:

Version 1.9 (Race)/Version 5.0 (Battle)

RACE:
  • New maps: Coastal Cruise, a map inspired by the base map Sapphire Coast, and Aerial Sanctuary, a map inspired by SRB2's extra level Aerial Garden.
  • Desert Dash: Added a missing Finish Line banner.
  • Icy Cliffside: Made the access to the shortcut a lot easier to get to, although the shortcut itself still has a strong offroad and fixed a water sector that was a death pit. Added a finish line banner.
  • Cyan Aquarium: Fixed a missing Star Post Activator. Added a finish line banner.
  • Intergalactic Station: Fixed an improper scrolling flat as well as a missing Star Post Activator sector.
  • Classic Southern Park: Changed the incorrect name of the song from "Poké Cup" to "Pika Cup". Some QoL changes.
  • Added a returning forbidden map.

BATTLE:
  • New maps: Steel Corners (based on Metal Corridor) and Outerspace Smash (based on Intergalactic Station)
  • Temple Chaos: Re-arranged Rings for Battle Plus' Ring Runners.
  • CD Special Stage 2: Blocked off areas where it was possible for players to get stuck. Said areas have also been converted to Death Pits.
  • GBA Battle Course 3: Made the course more like its appearance in Mario Kart Wii. In accordance, the level select picture has also been updated.

OH THIS IS A LOT

Interested in seeing what you two have in store, I hope this isn't a quantity over quality situation tho

EDIT:Why did you have to include the music as a seperate file instead as part of the whole package?

The two files are small enough to fit in SRB2's 50MB limit, and even then, you probably should've done a few things to cut down on the filesize in the music wad.

Looking closer, you guys didn't even bother to looppoint all of the tracks listed in here, and the music wad won't be considered as "important" for servers, meaning the music wad won't download over servers leaving clueless joiners without a soundtrack.


If possible, please stick the music tracks in the main PK3, and crop said music into a single loop or compress the track using audacity, giving a looppoint in the process, so that people won't have to arbitrary add two files just to enjoy the pack

The reason why both the music and maps are separated because the former would make the PK3 file too big.

Second, exactly what do you mean by “looppoint” all of the tracks? Some of them, namely Scuba Duba and Ghost Bayou, don't even have loop points, as they go from start to finish.

Ah, that makes sense, excuse me for being a derp, but some of the audio files could still be compressed using audacity to cut a little bit off of filesize.

Honestly, I would combine them anyways.

Even though the current downloader is crap, the ~35MBs worth of PK3 would still be low enough to fix under the filesize cap. Even though this kind of solution is hardly ideal, Not only does it mean that there would be more space to add other wads on top of this collection, but it makes it more convenient to servers and players alike since music wads aren't recognized as important to servers and won't be downloaded as such.

Here's a big long list of trouble that I found.

Spoiler:

Downtown Drive
These boost flats (this set and the previous) after the tunnel are misaligned.


At the square, going straight and turning right, the left turn afterward isn't very visible.

Sunny Garden
There's not much to do. No shortcuts, wider paths, etc.

Sea Temple
Please enlarge the images; dithering from downscaling masks the effect.
These arrows are hardly visible. Especially from a distance, it's hard to tell which direction that they signal.


Making this turn, I had a hard time telling which direction to turn.


Special Trek
The multi-colored arrows suffer similar issues as those in Sea Temple. Also, the walls and floor are sometimes indistinguishable, further disorientating me.

Techno Station
The offroad here is too strong in my opinion. I feel that bumping into offroad, on multiplayer, is inevitable in this area due to its winding.


Classic Bright Garden
The water and road colors blend because of their lightness here.


The stage also suffers from the problems of Sunny Garden.

Classic Mystic Meadow
Approaching this lake area could be misleading. I feel like turning left each time, and I don't expect the bridge shortcut to be perpendicular from the approaching path either.


Icy Cliffside
Two problems here. The shadow is so dark that it reminds me of an oilspill. It's also out of place from the rest of the stage. This turn is also very sharp. I usually fly out the window.


Southern Park
This is a problem shared by the park levels--extremely dark tunnels. Those tunnels are barely visible when approaching, forcing me to determine the direction to turn once the exit is visible. There's also a HOM there.



A problem that I believe many of these maps suffer from is strong offroad and extremely dark shadows. Some maps also suffer from poor contrast of textures and of walls and floor.

Many maps have very square turns, which are difficult to navigate, especially when the turns get tighter.

The Park Cup maps, aside from Green Hill, are inferior to the Classic Cup maps. I think I understand that the cups are supposed to advance in difficulty. But the park maps are very repetitive already, so having two sets of them is just worse.

Something others have pointed out about those Park Cup maps is that the abundance of chao cheering at the finish is too loud.

I love Victor's maps. But displaying his credit in the middle of the screen is a bit annoying.

And to say one good thing: I still enjoyed many of these maps! (Classic Cup and Rock Cup forward.)

Nice pack overall. A LOT of tracks for a lot of variety.

I'd like to address a few small problems I came across though. Sunken Temple and Special Trek both suffer from color issues that can make it hard to tell where you're driving, or where turns are. Sunken Temple needs to have a floor that is a different color or shade than the walls. Special Trek has so many different bright colors that it can be difficult to pick out the track's path at times.

Good work overall, I'd love to see future updates!

It's not "Sunken Temple", it's "Sea Temple".

Version 1.3 is now available for Kart Mania.
  • Removed several maps.
  • New maps: Desert Dash and Blazing Cavern
  • Water Palace has returned with a new layout.
  • Fixed a softlock problem in Sunset Island where if a player picked up an Eggman Monitor and blew up, they would jump over the springs.

For now, I'm putting this level pack on hiatus because I've been dealing with real life issues.

man, i sure am struggling to figure out what the inspiration for intergalactic station is, jokes aside, it is a pretty great map and you've done a good job on it, one thing tho, i found a broken respawn point in the map



edit: i also can't manage to get the shortcut before the ending to work at all so, it's either broken or i'm just bad
