Sora's gameplay is actually basically complete, I've just been taking a while on the sprites, which is pretty evident in the gif. (Health bar and heat work basically identically to her source game so have fun)

I will be watching this thread, it will be better than watching WIP shots and .gifs on Discord become completely buried just a couple days later.

Currently working on various stuff to better my skill when tackling two big projects I'm doing.

For example there's this thing I've been on the fence about putting into releases for map makers:

Basically a 2D+ mode, that allows mappers to make more use of things like the camera having more features and flexibility, player/enemy movement & positioning (also includes springs locking your movement). I plan to add more features very soon.

That looks sick! Only thing is i'd reccomend trying to do a similar thing to what Axis2d did aswell as all the other stuff so we could have the true 2.5d srb2 experience with custom levels

His sprites still need a few touch-ups here and there and I still haven't 100% decided on a reasonable way to implement all of the important gadgets, but my disappointment with the lack of a new game in over 10 years might just be enough to fuel me to actually finish this.

this really goes to show the current state of the series, huh

Mellow's got me covered, though the monkeys themselves were always the most recognizable things from the games anyway. I appreciate the enthusiasm and interest in the project!

The gameplay itself is a bit of an interesting take on 3D platforming collectathons. There's a lot of different gadgets you can use to tackle different situations, so trying to find a way to directly implement that into SRB2 may not be ideal. My focus right now is just getting his basic actions animated though.
 
Yeah, I can see what you mean. Differences in gameplay mechanics aside, implementing multiple different gadgets and abilities would probably mean there'd be a lot of spritework as well. You almost have to plan from the outset what is and isn't feasible to try and implement. Though I agree that focusing on the basics first is a good way to go.
