I've had quite an Ear Worm of Up on Melancholy Hill by Gorillaz. Though I've heard that song before, I didn't really remember it. So when I recently listened, not remembering what it sounded like, it meant a lot more to me than it ever did before. I can't listen to it without thinking of a lone girl sitting on the wharfs at sunset, waiting for her husband to come back from sea...
Believe it or not, that song has given me some great inspiration for my SRB2 mod that is underway.
The Gorillaz have to be one of the few 'bands' that I seriously enjoy. All their music is so very different, and each song tells so many different little stories. And weirdly enough, I actually like their rap. The only way I can explain it is this: Instead of rapping "because rap", they instead use the rap to get some very specific messages and attitudes across. Just listen to Feel Good Inc., where the rap parts represent one person talking, and the dreamy more ambient parts another.
That hasn't been my only ear worm, though. Recently, when messing around hitting the random song button on BrawlCustomMusic, I came across some soundtrack from some random JRPG, "Ar Tonelico 2: Melody of Metafalica". Looking it up, it looks like a cute game, but I'll probably never get around to playing it, if only for the fact that PS2 games are hard to come by. Maybe that's all for the best, though, as it lets me take the emotion in the songs and make my own stories with them.
The first one I came across was Mechanical Maze. It caught my attention right away with it's complexity and sounds of hope perserverance. From there, I went on to listen to some others.
Waltz of Gears was next. Again, a total keeper, it combines many different classical rhythms with mechanical and almost tribal sounds. It actually makes me want to design that steampunk level Whackjood was gonna do but never did. Ah, if only time was infinite, I would. :p
Finally, I moved on to a third song, Goddess' Footsteps, and was almost floored. The qualities of majesty, might, and beauty in this song are amazing, and it pours out emotions in such a way that it helps me to find awe of my God.
I wasn't in the habit of going to BrawlCustomMusic, as I viewed it as sort of a silly place to listen to music, but daaaang. Just out of curiosity I hit the Random Song button when someone linked me there, and I found these. I shall never underestimate the site again. ^_^
