“Does ANYONE like sonic robo blast 2?” Video intrigues me.

This video is about a guy who doesn’t care about the game nor the mods but wants to make a video because he’s annoyed by the fact the comments were telling him “try adding mods” from his other srb2 video. He wants us to ask ourselves do we really like the game the way it is and wants us to praise the game how it is instead of adding mods. And I want you guys to give me your opinion about this. Personally I love mods to death and I don’t usually play the vanilla but that doesn’t mean I don’t like the game in general, there are many ups and downs. I respect those who wants to play it as it is but he does not give me the right to tell me how to play it. Okay, I get it you don’t like the game but do you have the rights to tell us to stop using mods that we enjoy for change the game we see fit, No! And what’s with the grandma’s cookies story to gaslight us? That’s something sandwichface would say. Sorry for venting out like this, I just wanted to get it out. Anyways, tell me what you think about this video.

I… don't think that's what he' trying to say at all?

I'm pretty sure this is a follow up video to another video where he tried to play base game srb2, didn't enjoy it at all, and said why he does enjoy base game srb2. Then people decided to constantly barrade him with “play with mod to make the game better!!!!”

I will admit, I personally think base game srb2 is pretty dry nowadays compared to all the mods you have at your finger tips.

I also agree with his sentiment, because I believe that most people don't play srb2 for base srb2, they play it so that they can just mod it.

Do I think that you have to play srb2 without mods to truly like it? No. Do I think this game wouldn't nearly be as popular if it wasn't for mods? Yes.

That's what the video is talking about, how most people who play srb2 don't actually like srb2 without mods, and I agree.

I first tried it in vanilla. Fang was my main goal.
But soon enough, I wanted EVERYTHING. So I did that, and played for grueling amounts of time to do that.
THATS why I tried and still use mods.
The main game isn't bad at all. I love it! But sometimes people wanna expand, is that so wrong?

The same is true for a lot of Sonic games these days. Beyond a first time playthrough it's common for people going back to Sonic games to do so with a modlist. SRB2 isn't special in this regard.

Same kind of thing here. You're absolutely right, the presence of a modding community is an automatic boost to any game's popularity and staying power. If anything, a strong desire to mod a game more often than not comes from a love of the base game to begin with. The sentiment is basically "Man this game is really cool and fun, but what if it was even better?". More recently there has been a growing trend and sentiment of modding communities being assembled to "fix" certain games that aren't very good on their own such as with Sonic Forces, but this is more the exception than the rule.

Overall, yeah. It's not that people think that SRB2 is a bad game and needs mods to be good, at least in most cases. It's more that people think the game is good but that mods bring it to the next level.

Right Skyrim is great example of a game still being popular cuz of mods.

i love the vanilla game, it’s just that mods are really intriguing too. people preferring mods doesn’t mean the game is bad, i actually believe it’s the opposite! the game’s so good that people are taking the time and effort to make mods of it, basically showing their love for the game.

I absolutely love the vanilla game! Emblems, emeralds, different characters and routes, speedrunning, marathon mode, secrets, secret maps, multiplayer, the game has a LOT for you to do!

This game uses DOOM as a physics engine so give it a break everyone
The Doom engine does not have any physics by default except for perhaps gravity. All of the base physics in SRB2 is custom code.

At the moment, I would say SRB2 is like any other game with an official embrace of modding, in that after the first few months or so the vast majority of your playtime will involve custom content. I scarcely even play the official campaign these days and it is unlikely I will return to it in earnest until 2.3 comes out.

That said, this is another reminder that it is not possible to please everyone (as proven by just how many renditions of Sonic and physics reworks you can find on this forum). Fortunately, the game no longer penalizes players for playing the campaign with mods that do not explicitly enable cheats (which was a major source of complaints in the past).

This is literally my opinion on this type of thing to a T.

I'm still under the belief this game rose to the popularity it did in the early 2000's and late 1990's because of the mere novelty of a 3D Sonic fangame, and past that because people realized they could make anything for the game, which made it a big hit because original Sonic characters and stories were very popular in the mid-late 2000's from what I've seen.

It was a product of it's time and is only still relevant because of how impressive the modding scene is.

Thanks for correcting me!

Even if SRB2 attracts people interested in its impressive modding capabilities, there's lots more regarding its modding scene. It has a way of describing itself by showcasing its Campaign, characters, and gameplay. Some aspects I mention are unique to any Sonic Fangame, which SRB2 stands out because it showcases its massive content other than its Modding scene. Which fills in the vast majority of the game.

By any means, modding is (still) the reason the game has gained popularity. Without it wouldn't be shown as today. Whether you integrate the addons into the game, the elements get taken away. Unless you decide to include lots of addons, it'll take up the majority of its content. It's the reason people debate about whether the game should be shown with Mods or not.

In my opinion, SRB2 should be shown like any Sonic Fangame without using mods. (Any Sonic fangame has this impact on the Sonic Community, but I'm unsure if this is common, maybe I'm mistaken or incorrect about the statement) Whether you don't like it or not, it shouldn't be shown by its modding community as an example of embracing the game. You can appreciate and enjoy the game and its modding scene, but if it's liking SRB2 in general. You'll probably need to reconsider it.

This is a common reason, and responding to it can be debatable. It's like stepping in someone's shoes without any context but still. SRB2 is treated with respect despite having various situations regarding itself, Responding to it is stressful by any means. I had a hard time understanding, but I wrote what I said and it seemed achievable. Perhaps it's not, but who knows?

Pretty sure there's also a lot of videogames that their base game is amazing, and they also have the capability to get modded & it's just fun to mod them lol; Terraria is a good example of this, i love the base game AND i also see the community doing amazing mods on it, and even the devs support TModLoader i think lol

So the same thing applies to Sonic Robo Blast 2 imo. Great base game, while also having a lot of room & potential for modding which is a separate thing on its own

This! (Well, except that I don't mod Terrarria, as it's on my 3ds.)
