it is because it doesn't quite fit with the Italian Mario voice already established, and it sounds unfitting at first.

There have been other actors who played mario that didn't sound like mario at all perhaps a bias or its just that people prefer the Italian accent (I respect your opinion tho)

Pretty hyped tbh but chris pratt voice doesnt really sound like mario
Which is kind of ironic since the brazillian voice actor for chris pratt did a better job at a mario impression than chris pratt himself lol

the Mario voice isnt the most accurate at all but Bowser's voice and the animation for the movie is awesome, as a long life Mario fan I will obviously going to watch it with my cousins.
