I mean, personally, I think it's ultimately more rewarding and better looking to make your own sprites for Parappa in the style of SRB2 than to just take sprites from the original game, but there's nothing saying you can't do that if the character has other original aspects such as custom abilities. Still, I'd go for making your own sprites.
