I keep getting this error every time i try to start up SRB2:
signal_handler(): violation error
what do I do?

This is a very common error in SRB2 that can occur for basically ANY reason. Try checking the error log and copy the registers it shows and report it in the SRB2ME bug reports thread.

Exactly what Bbop800 said. It's maybe likely that you are using a res thats not supported.

I think what he means is that SRB2 might be more prone to random crashes if your resolution is not a multiple of 320x200.

Yeah, but the unsupported resolution random sigsegvs aren't instant on boot, they're random. The OP says it's sigsegving every time he starts it up, so that's almost certainly not the cause.
