whats with slash parings?

ok, we all know of slash pairings, some make sense and some are just weird,
EX: sonouge (Sonic and rouge)... ok, have they made any connections? rarely!
i just don't understand, WHY? and some are really weird like: Silverxcosmo, have they met? no! i have no clue why these exist, and why don't they understand?
cause they're fanboys/fangirls!
