Sonic Robo Blast 2 Master Server Rules

This is where you guys get to point out my typing flaws and laugh at my use of British spelling.

Before you go and advertise your SRB2 netgame on the Master Server, you should probably read up on these rules. It is vital that you read and understand these rules, as if you break one you will face a ban from the Master Server, which will mean you won't be able to advertise your game and you won't be able to get the server list.

 1. No chat or role playing servers.
 2. No advertising.
 3. Do not use incorrect gametypes.
 4. No hacking.
 5. No adult content.
 6. Do not use inappropriate language in server names.
 7. Do not constantly refresh the server list.
 8. You are responsible for what happens in your server.
 9. Do not be an idiot.
 10. Do not use banned wads.

Detailed Rules Explanations

1. No chat or role playing servers. The Master Server is for advertising servers in which you actually play the game.
 • Chat servers, where you simply chat using the in-game chat system, are prohibited.
 • Role playing servers, where you pretend to be characters that you aren't and act out scenes in-game, are prohibited.
 • Clan/Guild recruitment servers are also out of the question, due to how common it is that a proper SRB2 game rarely happens in said servers.
2. No advertising. This includes but is not limited to websites, messageboards and chatrooms. Do not advertise in the server name or in the server itself. The Master Server is not your own personal free ad space. We don't care about your horribly designed website or your 3 forum messageboard where you are the only user, go find someone who does.

3. Do not use incorrect gametypes. This means you should be completing the level in coop, shooting each other in match, etc.

4. No hacking. In-game cheats are fine, but any sort of hacking will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Anyone found hacking will earn themselves an instant strike on the Master Server, no exceptions. If your server is being hacked, please forward any information as to the hacker's identity to Cue.

5. No adult content. Remember, there are younger audiences playing SRB2 online, some as young as 8 years old. They do not need to be exposed to this sort of stuff, and personally, I don't think many of the older audiences will like it either. Try to at least keep your netgames rated PG-13. This includes cybering in any sense of the term.

6. Do not use inappropriate language in server names. Basically, if the word is banned on the Message Board, it's also banned from server names. Don't use excessive cursing in-game either, if you feel compelled to constantly throw extremely abusive insults at people, get off our Master Server, we don't want you here.

7. Do not constantly refresh the server list. Every time someone requests the list, 3 MySQL queries are performed, which can seriously bog down the server if used in excess, please remember that all of SRB2.org is hosted on that server.

8. You are responsible for what happens in your server. The host of the netgame is responsible for making sure his or her netgame follows these rules. If a netgame is found to be in violation of a rule, the host will be held responsible. Exceptions may be made for dedicated servers in rare instances, as generally a dedicated server will not be monitored 24/7, but this will be down to the MS admins and their decision will be final.

9. Do not be an idiot. We have a zero-tolerance attitude towards stupidity in all manners of the term, if you want to be an asshat, be an asshat off the Master Server.

10. No not use banned maps. There is a list of maps that are banned, no questions asked, anyone who has these added should be reported, a screenshot/log of the server's wad list and current map (in game or the launcher) will suffice. We will ban servers with these wads on sight. The list is as follows:
 1. M_SonicHouse_Xmas.wad
 2. SA-City (srb2jte.wad added with map as MAP23, or MAP22 for the waiting room)
 3. smsunleashed.exe (and SMSBlast.exe) - Due to GPL violations and refusing to change the version number, you can thank SMS for this.

Sonic Robo Blast 2 Master Server Ban system

The Master Server operates a strike system not dissimilar from the message board's own, except they don't last as long...

Your first strike will earn you:
 1. One week of being unable to advertise your server on the Master Server or get a list of servers currently advertised. (Tier 1)
 2. After that week is up you will be able to get the list of servers but will still be unable to advertise your own. (Tier 2)
 3. One week later, the ban is fully lifted and you can advertise your server once more.
The number of weeks you are banned for is relative to the number of strikes you have received, so your second strike would be as follows:
 1. Two weeks of being unable to advertise your server on the Master Server or get a list of servers currently advertised. (Tier 1)
 2. After those two weeks are up, you will be able to get the list of servers but will still be unable to advertise your own. (Tier 2)
 3. Two weeks later, the ban is fully lifted and you can advertise your server once more.
Strike 3 would be three weeks per tier, etc.

We also hand out permanent bans to constant offenders and those who go to the extreme with breaking the rules.

A full list of bans and their expiry dates can be found on The Master Server Ban Page.

Sonic Robo Blast 2 Master Server Reporting System

The reporting system is a new feature to the Master Server, which allows for much more organised reports and ban management.

A documentation on reporting servers can be found here. Thanks to Dark Warrior for that.

I would like to note that I can and will ban anyone who abuses the reporting system from accessing the server list as http://ms.srb2.org, this especially goes out to those who like to put the contents of the logfile in the logfile URL box. The proper procedure for filing a report is to copy and paste the log contents into a paste on http://paste.srb2.org and then give the URL(s) to the pastes in the URL box.
