Fusing socs into character wads

I know that fusing socs into character wads is possible, but how do you do it? I'm using XWE so can someone explain this alittle.
 
Just import the SOC as a lump, and name the lump "MAINCFG"

This works with any kind of WAD by the way, not just characters.
