Alright, I guess I do have to ask.

What the hell is so hard about the final boss? You're given rings, you can hit him plenty of times (if you don't use the homing attack, I guess SEGA forgot that people don't want to use it all the fucking time, again), and the "NOT THIS TIME, DICKHEAD; I'M UNHITTABLE NOW" overdrive thing is pretty easy to avoid.

I agree. The final boss is not hard at all. The only problem that happens when I am playing Sonic 4 on iPod is that whenever I do beat the final boss the game never gets to the credits because it crashes. D:

Subsequently, the folks at Retro apparently want me to do more remixes.

So, now we all have at least one of two things to look forward to now.

Ok, it's time for me to step in and to kick up my review. Just to warn some in advance I don't give a Flying Fudge of what you think of my opinions. This is my honest opinion which contains greats & cons. So here we go:

The Looks: the graphics are incredible. Running through Splash Hill Zone and looking at the waterfalls take me back to the old school times. The level design is very good, though there are a few annoying deaths pits here & there and there is lots to do in the level instead of following 1 path all the time.

Soundtrack: I love it personally. Splash Hill Act 1 takes me back to my childhood and Mad Gear Act 3 is kick ass which makes you think the tough challenge is here, let’s do it. Though I didn’t like Special Stages, that was the only bit of ear rape music, otherwise the rest of it was good.

Physics: Apart from the special stages, I seriously don't have many problems with the physics, though the spin dash could be a bit more powerful just to get up the slope and also it is a bit annoying that you can spin dash off a cliff and not continue like in the classics, but otherwise ok, though jumping in a special stage tends to bugger up your progess a lot which is why I prefer to "Free Fall" through the stages and actually succeed nearly every time I do the special stage.

Gameplay: It’s fast, challenging, and I can finally do some platforming in a Sonic game for a change. I like some of the gimmicks such as the road of cards and the rolling ball thing in Lost Labyrinth Zone. The Bosses are alright, some are easy, but boy, there were some twists. God damn Lost Labyrinth Boss. The Special Stages were average. It was quite annoying on several occasions due to cheap bumper placement which sent me to every frickin ! sphere I saw & the physics as I said above, but it was pretty challenging for a change.

Overall: I can’t believe the wait is finally over, because I enjoyed almost every minute of it. So this is my Greats & Cons

Greats

+Level Design
+Music
+Graphics
+A lot of replay value
+Just like the old days, it's just Sonic & Robotnik and no other useless characters. Though I hope Tails & Knuckles come in Ep 2

In Between Greats & Cons

*Physics, some of it is good, though some can easily be improved. Special Stages I'm looking at you.
*Boss Difficulty Curve is a bit weird, whilst some is easy, it then switches to tricky.
*Enemy Placement

Cons

-Ridiculous Bumper placement in Special Stages.
-The Cost of the game is a bit too high
-Episode is short. I was hoping for at least 5 3 act, or 6 3 act zones. But It'll do I suppose.

Do I find it worthy of the game being a true sequel?: Can I be honest with you? Yes. I thought most of the game was enjoyable except some flaws which can be sorted out just like any other game. It was a pleasurable experience and I hope Episode 2 will be better than this one when it comes out.

Rating for first episode: 7/10

So uh, is anyone willing to game share (or whatever it's called) this with me? I'm not going to pay $15 for something that's only 4hrs. but I am willing to actually play the whole thing.

What.
This soundtrack was terrible, I don't like this pseudo-chiptune thing they got going. I love chiptune songs, I listen to chiptuned versions of actual songs more than I listen to the actual song, but this soundtrack was bad. I muted my TV after the Casino levels.

Plus, some of the composition just isn't great on top of it. Some tracks are way too short for their own good; paired with the cheesy instrument quality, I think it would get really grating to listen in comparison to something from Sonic 2.

Overall though I like the game. My issues are the same as everyone else's, bad physics, bad music, and it's short.

you lazy shit

if you wanna pirate the game so bad

JUST GOOGLE IT!

although I'd rather you pay the $15 for it, I mean sonic 1 had six zones and how much did it cost when it came out (I bet more than $20) and you guys are complaining about $15 for four zones in a newer game where if they had put it on a disc you'd likely be paying $60 for this?

(run-on sentence are fun)

Like I said, that is my opinion, though I have to agree with Act 2 & 3 of Casino Street wasn't very great. I personally rather listen to any soundtrack if you ask me, though it doesn't mean I have every one of them as a favorite.

Muting your TV after the best song in the game?(Mad Gear)
I'm waiting for someone to remake Sonic 4 as a genesis ROM hack.
Sonic Megamix with Sonic 4 layout here we come!

I've actually died quite a few times because I didn't know what to do. How was I supposed to know that I'm supposed to jump and home on him after he falls to the ground? D=
EDIT: Also, the Wii/iPhone versions suffer from its resolution. You can't see jack shit in front of you, compared to the HD versions.
What? I see everything easy on my TV. (16:9,52 inch HDTV)
I swear I've seen complaints for not being able to see anything in front of you for the 360 versions too. Its got to be a TV problem.
air-dash forward that shouldn't exist,
That is incredibly useful to gain speed.

What have you done with every other enemy in the game? Also, maybe you should play Sonic 2 for some pointers.
No no no!
The LAST part. The one where he goes crazy and can land anywhere?
You know what else does that? Decent acceleration.
You won't find that in Sonic 4. :(

I think game sharing would be better (if there is a difference). Also Sonic 1 came from a time when games weren't that long (I think. How long were final fantasy games from that era?)

Games were relatively shorter then, but replayability was also different back when videogames had no save slots. When you enjoy a challenging game and get a game over, that's typically when you stop playing, as opposed to getting to a save point and deciding to quit. Every time you replay the game, your experience stacks up, and the way you go through levels changes because of this. This is why old Sonic games had great replayability; because of not only the depth of the physics but the level layouts, there was always a new way to play through a level.

As far as length goes, the challenge was the length. No matter how often you play an old game that doesn't have save slots, you're going to keep playing the game until you finally beat it. Sonic 4 looks impossible to get a game over on, honestly speaking, so that might affect its perceived length.

Nice remix Blue Warrior, first good one I've heard this year.

The final boss was only really hard on the last hit part(where he blows the fucking platforms up); I found Lost Labyrinth's boss the only one worthy of being considered hard.

Sonic 4 disappointed me because it felt like SEGA pulled a NSMB Wii trick, adding nothing new, being piss lazy with design(read: E.G.G Station) and adding a collision course of facepalm(read:how super sonic has more retarded physics then sonic himself).

Of course SEGA isn't fixing the problems in Episode 2. They're going to look at the critics Metacritic score, call it award winning like they did with Sonic Adventure and call it a day.

Remember the guy that made the Sonic 4 boycotts and bashed the game like hell during it's beta stages?

EVERY aspect of the game has been drastically improved. The music, the gameplay, the character models, running animation and level designs. This game delivered that nostalgic experience with something new to the table and Im very impressed with the presentation and intuitive controls. The physics may not have been 100% perfected, but it didnt detract my enjoyment of the challenges I had to overcome. SEGA may be sincere this time about redeeming themselves since for once, theyre treating their mascot and their fans with respect. Definitely worth the $15.
Good to know that the beta changes actually changed how this guy reacted toward the game.

derp source cause I totally made this up. XD
