Scrolling Textures on FOFs

Why did they remove Grey
Basically I'm trying to get the side defs of an FOF to scroll downwards to simulate a falls effect. Why? Because SRB2 comes with no real "sand fall" texture. :<

I think I've seen it before, or is it really possible at all?
 
I think you can do scrolling textures, if you can, it might not work in OpenGL. FOF texture alignment in OpenGL is broken, last I checked, and scrolling is probably done by constantly changing the texture coordinates.
 
Waterfalls and slimefalls are done with an animation, but if you have something that you want to animate, but doesn't (read: sand!), you can scroll it. I think Tets made a sandfall in one of his SP contest maps once..
