Default ACZ Question

I noticed on a wiki article that there were two songs meant for an older version of Arid Canyon Zone. So the question I have is, what inspired the change in ACZ from an ancient, Sahara tomb level like Sandopolis to a Wild West style?

Nothing. Arid Canyon was always themed as a wild west stage.

Originally, zone 4 was Mine Maze and zone 5 was Rocky Mountain. Those themes seemed too limited to provide two full acts of content, especially Mine Maze, and the concepts were merged together and given a Looney Tunes wild west flavor to become Arid Canyon.
