Help With Custom Textures

I'm trying to make a texture similar to THZBOX01 that has been broken open and has rings in it, but I'm not sure how to make it look three dimensional instead of flat. Any tips on how? (Sorry if this is in the wrong place)
 
You're trying to make a THZBOX01 texture but with holes in it? If that's the case, color where you want to be "broken open" in the color of 255, Cyan. When you put it in SLADE and convert it, enable transparency to make the color Cyan invisible.
 
Just a minor note - it's index 247 in 2.1 and earlier. Cyan is only the much more memorable 255 in 2.2 (when that comes out) and onwards thanks to the new palette.

There might be a lot of confusion about this in future!
