Paper Wads in Logo?

I looked at one of the logos, and noticed that Sonic, Tails and Knuckles are holding paper wads (NOT SRB2 WADs).

Is this like an inside joke or something? Or is it one of those "see who notices first" things?
 
Before we had the Official Level Design Contest(tm), a441 held a "WAD Fight" contest.

This was a little drawing I quickly made for him to use on the contest page.

That's still one of the best SRB2 logos ever, although I like the new ones much better.

P.S. Top Hat Mystic! Cha, cha, cha. Skiddly diddly doo. (I had to do something to let my stupid ouyt, right? At least it's not the main point of the post.)
