It doesn't look like you put much effort into it. AT ALL.
Its pillow-shaded from above, has no perspective whatsoever, has too little contrast, no AA, and the design is simply boring at most.
The color choice isn't the best either.

Well, I went ahead and tried making my own version of the sprite, this is what happened.

The second sprite (top, 2nd from left to right), I mean the diagonal forward one's head just looks wierd, and so is the diagonal back one. You just moved the eyes and mouth a bit... As you know yourself. =P
