Your "WTF" moments in Gaming

I was playing halo 2 on XBOX LIVE. I was on an assault level and was trying to escort a team mate to the blue's point to plant it. There was a blue in there who didn't attack us when we went by him. It was funny and we ended up winning.

In TF2 I was on 2fort following some teammates to the intel, there was a heavy trying to hide behind the desk. He died.

Also in TF2 I was on a small server, someone started a voteban on himself... It passed. I laughed so hard from that.

Just for the heck of it, I decided to use Sonic 3's debug mode to see how many lives I could get before the counter stopped (if it did). So I placed a ton of "S" monitors and made Sonic go super, then placed a bunch of enemies in a small area and plowed through them for about 10 lives a pop. Anyways, after I hit 100, I started getting weird symbols on the counter. So, I kept going and going and going. After I hit about 400 lives, I heard a little click come from my Genesis, and the game froze. No music, no buzzing sound...just a frozen picture of Super Sonic and about a dozen explosions.

Also, one time I was with some friends at a Halloween party, and one of them challenged me to Street Fighter 2 on his 360. He went on the whole time about how he was going to kick my butt with Ryu. So I picked Dhalsim, which he laughed at and said that 'Sim sucked. So when we actually fought, I let him throw a couple fireballs, and then decided to be serious. I never got hit in the first round. Ever. The second round, he only got one hit. So why is this a WTF moment? I was drunk!

Beating Fantasy Land Dizzy in one sitting, after trying for 15 long, hard years. Why is this WTF? Because the final high score never saved. :(

Going to re-iterate my list now with spoiler tags. They will be listed by game and by the severity of the spoiler.

Listed are all games that shocked me, with an explanation of how they did...

Sonic and Co.

Sonic and Knux: Mecha Sonic powered up- I can't quite remember, but I'm pretty sure I had a severe "oh cool!" reaction when he broke Egg-robo and used the emerald.
Heroes: *Mid-Severe* [spoiler:eff12f8dbf]The slip-up of Chaotix's employer - Here was where I found out who it was, and it was quite an interesting twist[/spoiler:eff12f8dbf]
Heroes: *Mid-Severe* [spoiler:eff12f8dbf]Metal Sonic's Transformation - It looked very daunting, regardless of Heroes' imperfections this final story had me hyped throughout its entire run.[/spoiler:eff12f8dbf]
Heroes: *Severe* [spoiler:eff12f8dbf]Shadow is an android... or is he? I was actually quite captivated by the mystery before it was trashed in the next game.[/spoiler:eff12f8dbf]
Secret Rings: [spoiler:eff12f8dbf]Shahra's death, lame as though it was played out, was completely unexpected. Too bad the scene was too horrid for it to be a big deal.[/spoiler:eff12f8dbf]

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

*Moderate* [spoiler:eff12f8dbf]Ness's sacrifice and Lucas's abandonment... poor guy![/spoiler:eff12f8dbf]
*Severe* [spoiler:eff12f8dbf]The supposed death of the Ancient Minister was very sad, and when he became ROB... it was quite a surprise. Somewhat of a bittersweet moment of relief when you realize that he was commanding his people to do suicide missions.[/spoiler:eff12f8dbf]
*Severe* [spoiler:eff12f8dbf]Dedede's badges were actually preventative measures against the dominion of the Subspace... this was quite a surprise, considering that this meant everyone he tried to make into a trophy he had done so to save them. And his relief at seeing Kirby is awesome.[/spoiler:eff12f8dbf]

Legend of Zelda

Ocarina of Time: Malon's subquest was not so much of a shock, as it was probably one of the highest levels of true emotion I had drawn from the game. The pity I felt for her and the bashful pride when she was expressing her gratitude was unlike I had felt in playing any game prior.
Ocarina of Time: *Mild* [spoiler:eff12f8dbf]Ganondorf follows Link to the Temple of Time... good going kid![/spoiler:eff12f8dbf]
Ocarina of Time: *Mild* [spoiler:eff12f8dbf]I didn't really expect Nabooru to be the seventh sage, especially considering how I thought she was a baddie for most of the game.[/spoiler:eff12f8dbf]
Ocarina of Time: Redead scared me... whether it was their distorted graphics, the shriek, or the way they tried to strangle you to death.
Twilight Princess: *Mild* [spoiler:eff12f8dbf]When you rescue Illia, she has no idea who you are... you expected some gratitude but instead you feel snubbed... or I felt snubbed anyways...[/spoiler:eff12f8dbf]
Twilight Princess: *Severe* [spoiler:eff12f8dbf]Midna is the twilight princess... I expected her to have something to do with everything, but I really didn't expect she played the eponymous role[/spoiler:eff12f8dbf]
Twilight Princess: *Severe* [spoiler:eff12f8dbf]The breaking of the mirror, while predictable, was very startling. The scene was very, very well done.[/spoiler:eff12f8dbf]

Mario:

Super Mario Galaxy: *Severe* [spoiler:eff12f8dbf]The sacrifice of the white luma was very startling... but it wasn't that emotional[/spoiler:eff12f8dbf]

Metroid:

Super Metroid: Ridley's death involved a sequence which panicked me like crazy
Super Metroid: *Just don't click it!* [spoiler:eff12f8dbf]The surprise appearance at the last boss was so sudden and unnerving that I didn't have time to reason whether it made sense or whether I should have known or what.[/spoiler:eff12f8dbf]

Cave Story:

If you've played the game, you probably already know!

Starcraft:

New Gettysburg, considering I didn't have a grip of what the story was about, seeing the betrayal to Kerrigan was shocking. Unfortunately, this is one spoiler that nobody can come back to and be genuinely surprised by because after the shock, the Queen of the Blades became the symbol of the Starcraft saga.
There were many events that did shock me, but I read them in an FAQ article or an online encyclopedia because I never managed to beat the Terran and Zerg campaigns of the expansion.

Ecco:

Tides of Time: The larva shocked me more than any surprise from any other game when it shrieked and covered its arms around you, and you could hear the high-pitched sound and smothering sound when you died. The worst part, you couldn't kill them, and you had to be right behind them in order to porgress through the last level.
Ecco I: Sharks are dangerous right? Now progress through a straight level with no mazes or glyphs, and an infinite number of Sharks swimming around you... Reaction?
Ecco I: The last three levels were pain-inducing, and possibly the only thing harder than Cave Story's secret level. A vertical gauntlet where you have to avoid being hit, a long and scrolling maze where you almost literally have to use your instinct and reflexes to survive, and a colossal boss which, while not that difficult, sent you back to the previous level should you die...

To one of Jev's spoilers (if you know already), shadow was rescued by a scouting robot by Dr robotnic (eggman). Eggman then used his DNA to clone muntiple copies.

Starcraft brood war: secret mission

-When I fought my way through the level to see that the zurg were creating a zurg/protoss hybrid. Now that was some messed up stuff there.

I know that, but it was a pretty cool half-revelation never-the-less. Besides that, I will choose my story for Shadow over Sonic Team's any day.

Ah yes... the zerg-protoss mission, Blizzard is teasing us by making Protoss the last campaign of SC2. ;_;

I actually can't remember how I ever managed to reach the secret mission, because you weren't allowed to cheat to get it, but you had to do really awesome at the level. (which I know I couldn't do)

when eggman said this in shadow the hedgehog.
"Shadow... can you hear me...? This might be the last chance I have to speak to you, so... What I said, about having created you... it was all a lie. Everyone thought you died during that horrible incident... but I rescued you, with one of my robots... You lost your memory, that's all... You really are the Ultimate Life Form my grandfather created!"

Technicaly I did both. I did it the macho way creating just hydralist, four heavy hitters and some flying units to back them up within the time limit (of course this level REALLY is not a cake walk. You have to make units like crazy while worrying abou an attack AND the time limit.)

What i did was creep with two drones to fine some resources and with anything extra I had two of each unit in reserve for back up. Took me a few tries but I got there in time.

After playing through again I used a cheat to increase my surplus resourses to overwhelm their units lol.

Sonic and the Black Knight: Sonic having a sword. I should've expected this to happen eventually the way things are going, but...

Tales of Symphonia:

*MASSIVE SPOILER! Do not click until you have spent the night at Flainor on the 2nd disk*

[spoiler:d1a9b15279]When I found out Kratos was Lloyd's son and Mithos was really Yggdrasill. And before then when Yggdrasill saved Genis.[/spoiler:d1a9b15279]

*MASSIVE SPOILER 2, don't click until you have completed your final trip to the Tower of Salvation*

[spoiler:d1a9b15279]When Zelos pretended to 100% deceive you and how all your friends kept on sacrificing themselves.[/spoiler:d1a9b15279]

Tales of the Abyss:

*SPOILER! Fight Asch first*

[spoiler:d1a9b15279]When I found out Luke was a replica of Asch. What's really unique is that even if I expected one of them to be the replica, it probably would have been Asch.[/spoiler:d1a9b15279]

Super Smash Bros. Brawl:

*all mild spoilers*

[spoiler:d1a9b15279]When Sonic, Olimar, Toon Link, and quite a few others were confirmed (don't know why I spoiler tagged this).[/spoiler:d1a9b15279]

[spoiler:d1a9b15279]Everything about the storyline of Subspace Emmisary; especially the one where ROB was revealed to be the Ancient Minister, how Tabuu completely trophied everyone (I was hoping Sonic came along there), and how AWESOME that battle against the giant Subspace gun was. I LOVED THAT![/spoiler:d1a9b15279]

Sorry for bumping, but I've got something to contribute.

This was in Left 4 Dead, in the No Mercy campaign (Co-op with Logan, Alam, and Ceshire Cat) on the rooftop. We were camping a room in which zombies couldn't enter due to a glitch, so we were relatively safe. Then we heard that dramatic music, cuing that one menace that always ends the campaign horribly.

The tank.

I became paranoid he would break in, but all of a sudden the music stopped. This is not normal at all, it plays until the tank is killed (I know how the game works.) We shrugged it off and kept camping the room. When the heli finally arrived, we heard the tank music again. Now, something for you Left 4 Dead players: Tank music only plays when the tank spawns and does not stop until it is killed. Basically, this meant a second tank had spawned and there were two outside. We ran outside, and this is where it gets odd: There was one tank. The first one had disappeared. Mind you we could hear both tanks, and as the music stopped with the first one, all sound effects stopped. The second one sadly brought an end to Zoey, while the horde took care of Me (Louis) and Bill.

This is odd because A) A tank just disappeared for no reason and B) Unless it's an odd glitch or you're doing really fucking good, there cannot be two tanks at once.

I dub said situations...

GHOST TANKS.

Dun dun duuuun.

  • Halo 3: I was on Floodgate and I got to the part with the Marine that was crying about everyone being infected or something. o_O;
  • Sonic '06: I threw a Sky Gem straight up and flew right out of the level.
  • Sonic '06: I spindashed as Sonic in White Acropolis without rings to the part where you play as Tails. Sonic promptly killed Tails and I lost a life. D:
  • Halo 2: Running around Coagulation and repeatedly getting "killed by the Guardians" for absolutely no reason. Damn kids.
I'll think of more later.

Halo 3-
My two friends jumped up, both snpied me in the crotch, and enden up getting a head shot off each other, yeah... that was messed up...
GH4-
Ted Nudget.. *shudder*
Sonic-
spinning like crazy, then glitching the level, which messed up all the textures and crap (this was was in Sonic Adv. 2)

In team fortress 2 the MARIO KART CP A8 H8 level is weird, it has crit rockets, melon bombs, and alot of other crap that doesn't make sense at all.

Going into roll's room after the clozer woods gate in megaman legends, that Was a HUGE wtf.

Also, Just WALKING Over the small gap in teenage mutant ninja turtles for nes.

I just had one recently playing Call of Duty: World at War for Wii.

In one of the campaigns somewhere around half way through the game's SP mode, there's a segment where you have to get on a Triple 25 (It's one of those big guns that you sit on and it has three barrels.) I got shot by a Japanese soldier, and got killed. The WTF came when I started sliding across the ground real fast after dying.

when i found out (Heavy spoilers for the twewy players.)[spoiler:ff26291f78]joshua was the composer in the world ends with you[/spoiler:ff26291f78] btw when this happene i said what?

Ratchet Deadlock/Online

-I was able to save myself by jumping to a floating ledge but an invisible wall kept me from getting up so I had to commit suicide. This was in ghost station.
