How do I get XWE to rename to lowercase?

If you have the very newest version, you can turn off auto-capitalization in the options. You shouldn't have any trouble finding it, seeing as XWE has a whole what, four or five file menus?

What's the newest version?
 
I don't know? Just check to see if the option is there. If it isn't, go see if you can find something newer. I think there might be a link to it on the Wiki, but I'm not sure.
