Srb1 was a very popular fangame made by sonniku, but it had rather poor graphics. SSNTails offered to help improve them, but sonniku wanted the new graphics to be for srb2, thus how stjr was formed.
 
Could you even ask an even mundane question worse than that..?

SRB1 was a 2-D fangame, as apposed to SRB2, but it was horrible (in my opinion.)

So, there you go.

Same here.I think it sucked pretty bad,but SRB2 is a 10x improvement.
 
Honestly, when you play SRB1, you have to take the context. This was back in the earliest days of fangaming, back when ALL fangames looked and played like that. SRB1 was popular because of the insane amount of levels and secrets, mainly. Sonikku's MS Paint talent doesn't hurt, either ^_~
