State spritename confusion

So by default, SRB2 can get the spritename of new added characters in the source code... Is it possible to make a spritename automatically pick out the spritename of the current character how the source code does? This would save about 100 lines of Lua for a project... and overall reduce a fair amount of lag and time in development...
If anything is unclear feel free to question parts of what I'm asking.
