This is a single player map (also my first legit map) of Splash hill Zone remade based on how I view it. The beginning was made to look like it but then around the end it started to get my modifications.

So far, this is the very beginning, I just wanted to post and ask for opinions so far.

I like the rocks, but the actual level itself seems kinda flat and unfitting with the rest. If you're doing water like that I'd try for other textures for the main platforms.

As in...The level seems to look like you could finish it by only running and jumping only once?

Nice start. But if you are trying to emulate the true Splash Hill experience you need more plastic grass.

Hm, I see what you mean, I will take this to mind and will improve on this. Is there anything else anyone would like to add on?

Which texture do you recommend?

The level is squares. This is its main problem. Make the level seem more "natural" by exchanging the ugly rectangular blocks with more natural-looking shapes. For an example, there are two particularly good 2D mode levels by D00D64, one of which is in Project DAMN and the other I can't remember what it's called for the life of me. But anyway, this'll still give an example of how to un-blockify a 2D mode stage. Note SRB1 Remake is NOT an example of good 2D mode stages.

I will have to edit the afternoon sky later, a bit of water is showing on the top.

I have taken some of the advice put up on here and have updated. I have also decided instead of it just being in day, it will change as you go through the level. It will go from Morning, to Afternoon, to Night. Thoughts?

This is looking really cool right now, good use of the 2d mode. Maybe you should try making the camera be at different angles throughout the stage/map (note: this is only if you don't want this to be an exact remake of the real splash hill).

Epic job! This level is looking really good also, how are you making it go from day to night?

If he is planning on changing the time throughtout the level (like from day-night), then he is obviously using change sky, he might change brightness and colourmaps as well.

Or he could be doing a 3 zone act each with a different skynum. I want to know which way he'll do it.

I am changing the sky by using the linedef 423. I made it that when you exit the second cave, it turns to afternoon. And this will all be one level, with all "acts" in one. I air quote acts because this is as stated in the title, a remix, my version of Splash Hill. With that being said, TSDude, how do I change the angle of the 2D mode?

You can't in 2D mode; you can only do it in 3D mode.

(Unless you use the linedef enable 2D mode)
You can, there are two methods that I use:
1) (This only applies to srb2cb) You use linedef 445; this changes the camera angle. In addition to this you can change the distance using linedef 446.
2) (This applies to all srb2 v2.0 and upwards) You use linedef 5 (camera scanner), you use the linedef as an angle and the floor and ceiling heights as a position on your player (e.g. the floor height determines how high above or low under the camera is from the player, the ceiling height determines how far away the camera is from the angle it is pointed at the player).

Sorry for the bump and double post I need to inform anyone that had read this forum or might be looking in this forum now that linedef 5 (camera scanner) does work in 2d mode if analog mode is on. It seems that analog mode changes the behaviour of the camera in a linedef 5 target sector. Just informing you guys so there is no confusion.
