Hey guys, i'm having some issues with my computer right now...an issue i've never heard of in my life.

My hard drives free space is continuously falling. For no reason whatosever. Hell, I just sit in my chair and watch it happen, I don't even impact the computer.

I have no idea what is causing this, and due to this I have decided to power down my system, as a method of slowing this down. If anybody here has any bright ideas, now is a good time to tell me, because it's already fallen into the megabyte level (even after I uninstalled some programs, that is).

Try to download and install "hijack this". Run it and put the log that it produces up here and then we can try to figure out what is wrong. Will the computer work in safemode without the problem occuring? If so, that is a good sign at least.

Sonict

If what I said above doesn't work, I will try to think of a better solution.

Progress Report:

To what I can see, my hard drive is not being drained in Safe Mode. However, the hard drive has not reverted to the original amount of free space it had (around 9-11 gigs), and is staying a 1.50 gb.

I will now exit Safe mode, and see if I still lose HD space.

EDIT: I have returned to normal winXP. While the rate is not as high as it was before (10 kb per second loss), I am still slowly losing my hard drive space, as I am now at 1.48 gb. I will now go and install that program Sonict mentioned.

I think I might of found the problem. Apparently, there was an 18 gb PNG file somewhere within the depths of my temporary internet files, that was rapidly growing. I deleted it, and was happy to see that I gained back all the free space I had lost. I am still a bit suspicious that I might be losing HD space, so i'll keep you guys updated if it starts to drop again.

Must have been an Automatic updating porn image. :P

Well.. I would suggest downloading 3 programs to get rid of your virus/spyware problem:
Spybot Search and Destroy
Ad-Aware SE personal
And AVG.

Lies. I took a look at it. It was a 1/2 complete image from The Movies: The Game. Lord knows why that file was growing like it was OD'ing on enlargement pills, or why it was a picture from that particular game.

Goodbye Spazzo

Hello Ritz

I've seen this before.

What you might want to download to keep your computer safe (if you don't already have them);

- Zone Alarm
- Network Magic
- AVG Free
- Adaware 2007
- Spybot Search and Destroy

The picture probably contained a code within it to continuously grow. Let this remind you to always scan your files after you download, before doing something else.

And here I thought it was all that Galuf/Gilgamesh slash that I've suspected you had. Damn, there goes that theory.
