This is my first post.
And this is my first... my first mod?
Well, yes. The mod is called "Eggman Ultimatum" or "EU".
The actual mod is beta, version 0.3.
Actually the mod contains 4 levels, 2 in single player and 2 in tag.

The first level is called "Greenflower Zone" (I want to call it "Destroyed Garden").
Consists in a stupid map.

A few seconds after the start.

After started, the floor will carry you like the conveyors, but without the sector marked as a conveyor. So the sprites showed is like "you are running".
Then you can see a hole. Walk at it and DON'T MOVE!
You will fall and get this:

Oh, no! That little blue square transports me to this ruins! Wait... Eggman!?

When beating Eggman, the egg capsule won't appear. Instead, the level ends.
The following level is "Anti-techno hill zone" (Yes, this name sucks).
The emeralds has been scattered on all the level. To end this level you need to collect every emerald and destroy all the red crawlas. (This level is incomplete: actually needs the 'emerald check' sector and the 'no more enemies - once' linedef.)

NOOOO!!!! That enemy has blocked me a screenshot: There's a spring at the very end - before the level end sign.

I've collected some emeralds, when used the spring I reached there.

Then there are no more levels. This is beta, so the levels available in single player are 2.

There are 2 levels to play on match\tag.
The first level is called "Unknown City Zone".

There are a few special things. A "Gravity Boots" monitor, a secret room (is not very secret)...

This is not secret. There are tunnel entrances in some spots on the map.

A secret room. This doesn't have any special things or controls. But, when you enter there, you need to exit FAST because the floor is a ring drainer.

The next map is a map that never will be released. Is a incomplete map with bugs and glitches.
The map actually doesn't have a name... But this is a copy of the map "Unknown City Zone".

I'll be honest with you - everything presented here is... well... absolute crap. Let me start with the MP maps...

There are 2 levels to play on match\tag.

Actually, no. The way these two maps' headers are set up right now, they're Tag-only.

Unknown City: All it is is a flat room with barely any variation whatsoever. The secret room is pretty pointless and the tunnel section is really cramped. Also, the ring layout is completely random...

Unknown Space: Glad to hear you're getting rid of this. All this map is is Unknown City with even more pointless gimmicks.

Now on to the single player maps...

Greenflower Zone: Man, this is a huge mess... That's really all I have to say here. You summed it up perfectly - it's a stupid map.

Anti-Techno Hill Zone: This somehow manages to be even more messed up than the other SP map here IMO. There's no texture variation at all, and the layout is ugly. Also:

To end this level you need to collect every emerald and destroy all the red crawlas.

Making the whole level where you have to kill enemies and collect emeralds is generally considered bad design.

If I were you, I'd scrap every map here and take a good look at Level Design 101 on the wiki. It'll really help you here.

Don't feel too bad, you just need some constructive criticism.


1. Have you ever played Tortured Planet? Most people here absolutely HATE Spacewalk Zone, and that's mainly just a bunch of platforms over a bottomless pit. What you have here seems to be the same concept. Just try to make your levels like Liftoff Gantry in that Tortured Planet pack, difficult, but without cheap level design.

2. Texture variation is important. In the first stage, it looks like all you used was a GFZ Block texture and an Egg Rock Zone texture. That's not good.

3. Your zones need to be a little more natural and decorative. Anti Techno Hill Zone looks just like a hallway filled with enemies, no pipes or anything. Play Techno Hill Zone Act 2 and then compare your map to it.


Anyway, you should really use the Level Design 101 akb778 posted. It should really help.

I'd like to note that even then, there was infinitely more to see and do that this junk. GFZ1 is a large, epic zone comparatively, and considering how small and simple it is, especially in Demo 1 where it wasn't even complete, that's saying a lot. Saying that this is a beta is no excuse, as this reeks of someone's completely awful first attempt at mapping.

I'm not saying that you can't learn to make good stages, but you should sit down, read Level Design 101, and examine the official stages and figure out what makes those stages fun while these stages aren't.

Note: Greenflower was killing my ideas. I tried to do a zone like GFZ 1 to then do it darker and put sone enemies... But that is hard. So I will change ALL maps and ALL names. Then I have a different idea. So the mod will be more original.
And why not? I will do better maps because the others 4 are too... Well...

Ok. There is an ALPHA (everyone has killed my ideas).
This wad only contains 3 maps.
Destroyed Garden.
DGZ haves 3 acts. Two like GFZ and the third is original.
On the third level you fight versus Eggman Mobile. He haves rotating spikeballs. To have another hazard, the room will flood 1 francuit every tic.

Note: This only haves maps for Single Player, Co-op and Race.

You're making good progress on this, but there's still a lot of stuff here that is really bad level design. For instance, your main levels (acts 1 & 2) are extremely cramped and kinda bland. The way you get to the special stage token in act 1 is really obvious because your thok barrier's too low, enabling everybody to see across the map and potentially fooling players into thinking that there's a place there to go when there really isn't. Also, your non-colormapped water looks hideous, there's way too many enemies, and the main acts are a bit short. I'd recommend scrapping these and starting over.

The only map I see here that can be saved is your boss map, which looks like it needs its size increased a bit. Not entirely sure that I like the water gimmick you put in here though... I would recommend making the water rise and fall, not just rise.

Again, you're making progress, but you still have a long way to go. We all have to start somewhere...

I can't colormap the water. This computer is very slow.

I'd recommend scrapping these and starting over.
My record: 6 scrapped levels.

The only map I see here that can be saved is your boss map, which looks like it needs its size increased a bit. Not entirely sure that I like the water gimmick you put in here though... I would recommend making the water rise and fall, not just rise.
I can resize it. Doom builder have an option to resize the selection. And the water rising and falling... I'm having problems with that. But I can try.

Again, you're making progress, but you still have a long way to go. We all have to start somewhere...

This "mod" of yours doesn't look good. Its all bland and out of place. Try matching the textures, and it looks cramped.
