Sonic Generations

Besides Episode 2 of Sonic 4 and a 3rd story book, Sega doesn't really have any plans at all. This is also a bit too early to care

Most fans may say otherwise to such a statement. But despite some of the awkward physics (and CRAP!! the freaking spindash 0_o )), it's by far very entertaining and IMO, more interesting than past Sonic games.

People are saying otherwise? I haven't seen a single game since 3&K that matches this quality. I guess Colors is at the same level or even better though.

So... Has anyone found out about the "secret codes" yet?
A full list was on the Sega boards, but they took it down. I'm sure the codes originated on Sonic Retro somewhere.

This game was great .
Very original and no over use gimmicks.
Short and amazing story wise.

Im going to give this game a 1 out of 10 .
WHY? You asked?
Because im IGN.

Nah but, really IGN had a good score but their complaints about it were way too personal. I was surprised they didn't say anything about the were-hog.

So I just got this in the mail today from Gamefly, and it's pretty rad so far! Up to Seaside Hill at the moment, and I've got to say, even though this game feels way more "fair" than Unleashed, I'm still dying a ton. I even got a Game Over on Speed Highway. Maybe I just suck! I dunno.

The physics are pretty reasonable to me, but there's a couple of issues. Number one, yes, the spin dash is ridiculous. On the other hand, there's usually something in your way to make you stop, so that does help. Two, Classic Sonic has a really, really tough time getting over slopes and loops without the spindash. It's not a gamekiller, but I really hope that there's a mod for PC to help him handle slopes better.

I also like how you can buy a skill that lets Classic stop on a dime, as well as
the homing attack.
It's truly Classic Sonic as you've imagined him.

Also, man, I would play all the way through '06 if they used the Colors/Generations writers for it. So good, especially compared to just a couple of games before.

For those who pre-ordered the PC version:
I just preloaded the game on steam, and now it says the game will unlock on Nov. 3, in approximately 20 hours.

Just played mission 4 on Spagonia. Am I the only one that thinks that snowboard Mission should be applied for all modern stages?

Sonic Generations now playable on steam! About to start!

I have to play in 800x600 to run at 60 fps...D:

What are your computer specs, Ultimate?
Here they are

After playing on 800x600 for a bit, it doesn't actually bother me at all, it still looks great :P!

First impressions/annoyances regarding Classic Sonic:
- Vertical springs autocorrect your direction
- Many vertical-launching slopes seem to be scripted. I fully charge a spindash off one and barely make it above the slope, I do the same on another and go flying into the air.
- Often times can't press down to roll when I'm running
- Jumping slows you down, especially if you jump when not running at full speed
- Feels unintuitive

First impressions of Modern Sonic:
- Modern Sonic feels much less clumsy than classic, they did a better job with the physics here (imo) than in Classic gameplay
- Definitely NOT boost to win
- Gameplay much more enjoyable for me because my problems with Classic Sonic mentioned above

Also, does anyone know how to drift with modern sonic? I'm trying to do the spindash/drift thing but I have no idea how.

My system runs it at mostly full speeds at default settings in 1080p with vsync and stuff but it does slow down from time to time. Also, it keeps freezing on Rouge's mission, but other than that it's going pretty well.

Well are you playing with a keyboard or a gamepad? On an Xbox 360 pad it's the triggers and left stick together.

Doesn't it prompt you with the controls when parts that you need to drift at come up?

I'm using a keyboard. When the prompt pops up (speed highway is where I've seen it so far) it says to use "direction + trigger"
Maybe it's not working because of the keyboard not allowing me to press three keys at once, but since I'm using default controls I would think they'd make sure to test for that kind of thing. Here's the buttons I've been using for it:

One arrow key + boost (S) + one trigger (A/H)

One more question, can you drift when there is no prompt? I've seen some drifting in GHZ speedruns.

You can dirft anywhere, you can use any ability anywhere except for lightdash and wall jump which both need a sparkle around the rings and a specific type of wall (except for one exception in Seaside Hill) respectively.

So right now, I've completed the game and restored the Genesis era completely along with only the Classic Seaside Hill to go in Dreamcast era.

Copying what I posted from from Jul...

The PC port is ... well, aside from the lack of a windowed mode, what is there to say about it? It runs damn fine.

The game's still 'meh' though. Modern's the same old boring stuff that I never liked, Classic is still broken ... yet, somehow, it manages to be a bit fun when it's not scripting you through something you probably don't want to go through, like those two tubes at the start of Green Hill that lock your controls and force you to fly up into the path of rings... Ugh.

I suppose I'll throw around some random musings...

As I figured, the broken ring loss mechanics were there from the start, and indeed most (something like 90%?) of my deaths were from mechanics that kill you instantly. Not fun.

The physics... they seem clunky and awkward. That spindash really is downright absurd. Jumping ... isn't as bad as I initially thought it would be. He doesn't seem that heavy after all. But the ramp physics are damn annoying and wrong; I wasted so much time trying to jump on ramps and being sent forward instead of backward.

Kinda getting sick of falling through floors because the game fails at changing layers or something similar, as well. Yes, the classic games did it, but nowhere near this often. Damn you Crisis City...

The shield powerup is useful ... when it works. On at least three separate occasions I got hit with a shield and I _still_ lost rings anyway...

Super Sonic is absolutely useless. Ring drain is way, way faster than "one ring per second", it's hard to stay super for any decent length of time.

That's ... all that I can think of at this hour. I'm done playing the game tonight, maybe I'll pick it up again and collect more things.

HEY GUYS REMEMBER THERE WAS A 3DS VERSION

http://www.sonicstadium.org/2011/11/apotos-confirmed-for-sonic-generations-3ds/

So, with this last bit of info, this means...

-Not a SINGLE HANDHELD ENTRY not a port or a handheld version of another game was represented.

-All zones but ONE (Casino Night) are first zones in their games.

No idea what they're thinking.
A lot of people can argue that Radical Highway isn't the first real stage of SA2, but yeah. Most of the stages are from the first level.

I'm pretty sure Iizuka said there was going to be exclusive multiplayer stages, so more could be coming.

Aww that sucks. :(

I was hoping for at least a few handheld stages that would be mentioned near release but I guess not.

They should have gone this route with the handhelds, which would parallel the consoles:

GameGear era, Advance era and the Rush era

For some reason, on the Steam version of Sonic Generations PC, the configuration tool won't run. It keeps doing the first time setup thing and then closing without bringing up the config panel. I can't run the game without the configuration. Please help!
