when i start the game up a black part covers overs the bottom of the screen can someone help me :?

That happens when you play the game other than 640x480 (or 320x200).

To fix, go into Options, then Video then Video Mode or something like that, then choose the one that works.

Or play in OpenGL mode, in which case most resolutions work just fine.

This is an issue that's well known, and frequently happens on older laptops. Go into video options and change the resolution. If that doesn't work, I remember there being a console command that fixes it by stretching the screen in a weird way.

However, all that is is a section of the screen where the game isn't drawing anything. It's annoying, but it won't harm the game any.
