Pallette with MS paint

Use the "screenshot" command to nab any screenshot in Software mode.
Open that image in MS Paint, delete everything. Scale the image down.
Copypaste whatever sprite you're using into that image.

Paint will now automatically determine whatever color is closest to any color you attempt to use on the sprite. It is of course, wholly inconvenient. But that's what ya get for using Paint. :P

Actually, that would be a bad way, because maybe your screenshot doesn't contain one of the pallete colors. Y'know, when you import your image into the WAD, if you're using XWE, and have set srb2.srb as the IWAD, it'll automatically convert ot the right pallete for you.

Just because the image itself dosen't use certain colors, dosen't mean they aren't stored in the pallete. SSN has said on many occasions that software screenshotting is an effective way of getting the pallete.

Wrong. this happened with my 2d cartoon pikachu.

Yes, XWE is the best way to get the palette into a sprite. It's easy, convenient, and accurate.

If you're that concerned, take an image of the palette, import it into the image, and use the color picker tool to get the necessary colors.
