Are you trying to put a soc in the first level, or are you using soc editor to make the level header for the first level?
Either way, you would put the SOC in a MAINCFG lump of the wad. I suggest you look at mystic realm's MAINCFG to see how it works. You can also look at the MAINCFG article on the SRB2wiki if that helps. If you need help making the level header in the MAINCFG, you can look at the Level Header article too.
