Okay, first of all, you got the order wrong. It's not Alt+Del+Ctrl, it's Ctrl+Alt+Del. Secondly, opening the Task Manager isn't going to magically warp him into full-screen mode.
Because of the way that Vista does display drivers, you might have trouble getting into full-screen unless you have it set to use your desktop resolution (no video change). If that doesn't work, try tinkering with the application's Compatibility options. What renderer are you using? Software or OpenGL? I personally don't use Vista, but I know a few that do- in particular, Shuffle.
