SRB2 on Ubuntu 14.10

I hope this is posted in the right forum. If I have Ubuntu 14.10 32 bit, how do I run SRB2? Will the Linux port work? Plus, is said port up-to-date? Are character WADs and update patches compatible with it? Will I be able to play online? Thanks in advance.

You will need to build it from source, there's a page on the wiki.

Use an archiving tool to open the installer .exe and pull the data files out into a folder (also grab the patch zip for 2.1.12), and copy lsdl2srb2 into the same folder, then run via terminal with ./lsdl2srb2.

By archiving tool, you mean a decompressor?

The installer.exe is just a .rar archive with built-in executeable to extract it's content.
Linux distros usually can unpack what it does contain with native programs of desktop environment currently installed. Open it as an archive and you're good to go.
