Only one? And that not to mention all the pirate games following this.

Also I don't think Sonic and Mario are so stupid to don't figure out how to perform well in another world :/

Not all pirate games are hacks. Some are just completely new (and lame, honestly) games made without any license and taking profit for it anyways, hence they're illegal.

Let's see here.

Sonic kills enemies by jumping on them, Mario kills enemies by jumping on them.

Sonic does crazy scripted stunts, Mario does crazy non-scripted stunts.

Wouldn't be too different. Mario could use the scripted areas almost as well as Sonic, though Sonic would have some trouble making some jumps in Mario levels. Though the levels are rarely built around the whole, 10 different jumps bit.
