cant start up version 2

yes i know im a noob but
when i start up the game i get the error
"setdisplaymode FAILED: function call not supported" what am i doing wrong? i got the auto updater to get all the latest updates and did the patch and everything
 
If you have 1.09.4a, check if you dont have Fmod.dll. If there is, delete it and restart your computer(Thats how I did).

You shouldn't be installing new versions on top of old versions anyways, unless it's a patch (2.0.1 -> 2.0.4, for example).
 
i downloaded the latest version and extracted it into its own folder, so i didnt put it over a old version

I'm sorry, but this is a terrible and vague piece of advice. Check the card? Why check the card? What good will checking the card do if they don't know what they're looking for? Please, include more context.
 
Open config.cfg

Look for "height "400""
change the 400 to 480

Save and run SRB2.
