A bizzare game crashing glitch concerning Dr. Robotnik

I'm just going to qoute the letter I sent the dev team. Hopefully they can fix the problem so that I'm not stuck in zone 1 forever.

Gentlemen, I wish to bring you your attention a certain bug that is
preventing me from proceeding onwards in SRB2.I have tried all possible
variables when it comes to attempting to address ny problem and I hope that you
might be able to solve my problems. The game usually crashes after I defeat the
aforementioned villain the first time around, mostly a mere few seconds after I
liberate the animals. (If it helps my operating system happens to be a
32-bit Windows Vista equipped with the second service package from microsoft,
has a Intel Celeron processor chip and a ATI Radeon Graphic card as well as
Realtek HD audio as the sound driver.)

Here is a full copy of the error log that my copy of the SRB2 version 2.0.6
generated apon crashing.

I'm just going to qoute the letter I sent the dev team. Hopefully they can fix the problem so that I'm not stuck in zone 1 forever.

this overflow bug have been fixed in r6249

just play without Digital Music for a while, but I think this crashes because of a bad OGG music lump in a modified music.dta file.

This occurs when running srb2win.exe

Never played.

Please assist. Very eager to check this out since it is based on Doom

Is there such thing as SBR1 ?

oh boy, your system do not like our self-modifing ASM code.
run SRB2 with the -noasm switch or disable DEP for SRB2 binaries.

AlamGBC, do you mean to make a shortcut of it, go to the target in Shortcut tab and make it end with:

srb2win.exe" -noasm

?

As for your second suggestion, I don't know what it is to disable DEP for SRB2 binaries..yes I'm not sure what's a binary neither..

As for your second suggestion, I don't know what it is to disable DEP for SRB2 binaries..yes I'm not sure what's a binary neither..

Vista/7 systems click the heading "To turn off DEP for an individual program" to view the steps you will need to do

For XP systems, by default, are setup to enable DEP on a small set of programs, but if someone changed it do apply DEP to all programs, you will need to do the steps in workaround section of KB875351

So the -noasm suggestion I understood correctly..?

Why, yes I did. Is there any loss with -noasm ? I went straight into Video Settings as well but could not find OpenGL option, only resolutions

-noasm would disable the x86 ASM software renderer code and use the fallback/backup code at a small speed hit.

Code:

While joining Oerg's server, it came out of nowhere on loading screen.

Randomly happened in a netgame when I was using a WAD that uses A_MixUp when you die.

I do not think you are using the official 2.0.6 EXE, but here I go:

tools/zlib/tree.c:960
Code:
tools/zlib/trees.c:960
  4d653a: 8b 9f ac 16 00 00 mov 0x16ac(%edi),%ebx
  4d6540: 83 c3 0a add $0xa,%ebx
  4d6543: c1 eb 03 shr $0x3,%ebx
static_lenb = (s->static_len+3+7)>>3;

You're right, I'm not. I'm just using a very lightly modified SRB2 EXE that replaces some menu text and comments the #HARDWAREFIX line in the source to enable shadows, because apparently the "hardware fix" breaks shadows. I doubt that really matters, though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, because if it does, I don't want to submit invalid EIP's here.

You have to use the official binaries to produce EIPs that will be accepted here.
