Impressive, but in addition to some more texture variety, some walls could stand to be darker colored than others to offer some contrast to the barrage of bright gold all the time. Water needs to be green, of course, and try to find a use for the original background...

Edit: Oh lawd. Make Jet Jaws look like Sonic 1 Jaws.

Still drawing up concepts for enemies and Scenery.

Level Progress

Well, I've actually started on the level, but I am in need of gimmicks. It would be appreciated if anyone could give me some

Anyways, that's my progress so far!

I like the fire hydrant, but it's kind of small. The street sign, however, is just not going to work. the current repository o' DCZ stuff already has sector-based street signs which look a lot cooler.

Scizor, those scenery things are way too small. Resize them to at least 2x their current size.

I already made some walls darker than others, but it's kinda hard to see a difference seeing how there only is a limited number of gold hues.
I also tried making the water green, but that looked horribly ugly, just like the original background.

Sorry, but seeing how I fail at spriting, that's not going to happen (making the Jet Jaws look like Sonic 1 Jaws).

Also, screenshot time:

http://i42.tinypic.com/2r5gok0.jpg - Yes, those platforms on pillars crumble and float to the ceiling.

http://i42.tinypic.com/nb6rev.jpg - The second room on the lower path got a revamp, both underwater...

http://i39.tinypic.com/xnhj82.jpg - ...and above the water, for Tails and Knuckles only.

http://i44.tinypic.com/k0lytj.jpg - A random hallway, where I'm facing the opposite direction.

There hasn't been a lot of progress since last time, actually. I did make the music loop correctly, and I'm currently planning out 2 new rooms.
Fortunately, I have more than a month left to finish it, so it's highly possible that it will be entered into March/April's contest.

Lastly, I'm almost out of ideas. Any suggestions?

Scizzor, are you making the level with blahblahbal? Is it going to use dark city textures, or custom textures?

Other than those giant (electric?) pillars in the first two screenshots, the scenery looks good.
I wonder how you'll do 2D Mode correctly, though. Is the entire level that way?
It's sorta minor nitpicking than anything, but using more red-colored flats and textures would look nice if you did it near the hazardous areas.

I applaud your ability to persevere and actually produce something. I haven't touched my map in virtually a month.

You know what, Blade? I'd say you've become the SRB2 community's de facto king of customization. How the heck do you just invent things like those awesome-looking spinning saws?

Though I don't know what de facto means, thanks anyway. I'm suprised Buzz saws haven't been done before.

Did I mention they make the buzzing sound? :3

Man, that sounds even cooler! I hope that all this stuff is going to go into the official game at some point.

De facto is a Latin phrase which is used to mean "essentially, without necessarily being official".

Blade, that map is awesome ;-;
It plays even better than it looks, it's that awesome.

Also, this is old news, but Labyrinth is scrapped. I didn't have any ideas left, and I got quite bored with the lack of textures.
However, I will be entering SP, with another map: Blazing Shelter Zone.
It's going to be a hard stage, intended to be a 7th zone of a potential mod. It's a lava cave/factory hybrid, and it's not done by far.

Yes, I will finish this.

So, I submitted my level into the OLDC. River Dash Zone, while I'm pleased with what I've made as my first serious attempt to create a single player level of playable and enjoyable quality, I rather doubt it will win the contest as it's quite short and it lacks the original content in Burning Shelter and Blade's 2D level. But, that aside... Where better to get some good criticism on my map and my mapping style than in the contest, eh?

And so it turns out Canyon Cave Zone 1 won't be in this contest, I probably wont play SRB2 as much until 2.0.5 comes out anyways.
