Is the era of netgames over?

I dunno...it seems that lately there are absolutely no netgamers online, and the only servers up are a few scattered dedicated servers. What is going on?

Lets see, 1.09 has been out for 3 years, SRB2ME is due out a few months from now, all the roleplayers moved to Blue Warrior's Masterserver (it is currently down ATM), there aren't very many skilled Match or CTF players so others get discouraged about hosting, etc.
Although, when ME comes out we'll have a crapload of servers.

I had a decent CTF just the other day. I hosted on Blue's server, and got my backside kicked in. The main guy on the other team was just called "Player 4" and didn't change, so he may have been smurfing. Or I was just paired with two dimwits while he had competent teammates. Either way, it was cool.
