Jeck Jims' Saturn Inspired MD2's-V5.5 MetalSonic Revamp
![]() Developer Last Online: Feb 2019
V5.5 Metal Sonic revamp and Knux polish. SRB2Kart? Spoiler: Jeck Jims' Saturn MD2-V5.5 Other than that, the main meats of this update are Metal Sonic and Knuckles. Metal has gotten a complete new head and textures to better match his intended design, rather then R's "interpretation."He's also gotten some nice animation updates to match Blade's sprites more, still some R inspiration as well though. Knuckles' head was also completely redone with it's textures, overall just more polish and will look tons better in colors other then red. Spoiler: Spoiler: Background With the release of Sonic Mania, I, like several others, were inspired to start making some content again. The amazing looking low-poly work in the special stages of Mania especially, game me something to strive for. This model pack is designed to answer the what if question "What if SRB2 was made officially for the Saturn?" As such, the models are designed using parts and textures from whatever Saturn models I could get my hands on, with a target of looking somewhere in the middle-ground quality between Sonic R and Sonic Jam. The other thing about this is, I genuinely believe that a mix of both some sprite assets and modeled assets is what the Saturn would have done, and I won't be making models for every asset under the sun. (so don't expect flowers bushes. etc) Whats Included Then? Spoiler: Setting up! The actual ZIP contains all the files you need, as you need them. Simply export the files to your root SRB2 2.1 folder, start SRB2.exe in OpenGL and use the console command "GR_MD2 1" and your good to go! New folder organization? Spoiler: Credit Explained Spoiler: Update log Spoiler: Known "Issues" -Animation frames added with lua can be very difficult to make models for, ROSY is a great example of this. (NO I can't fix the hammer bounce) -An excessive amount of MD2 models on screen or in the area will cause Frame issues, I suggest turning on Limit Draw (render distance for objects) in 3D options. -Tailscd: the way the lua for the extra animation states is setup prevents Tails' tails from interpolating. To simplify, they will animated "not-smooth" :V -The above issue is also present in many character wad's Spindash states. Download Now

These models will provide almost perfect frame-rate even with all enemies loaded, the poly and file sizes are drastically reduced compared to the other models, so keeping them all on (minus maybe Crawlas and rings due to their nature) is highly recommended for the best experience.
It sure as hell makes it easier to hit those Spring Turtles and Green Snappers without any bullshit

This is Top Notch! This pack fits more the rest of the game unlike your normal MD2 Pack since this game looks more like a Saturn game rather than a Dreamcast game. I still like your original MD2's.

I'm at a loss for words...
I just wanna know why no one thought to do this sooner? It's perfect for this game and just looking at it makes me want to play more SRB2. |

Behold, the add-on that singlehandedly saved player md2s in 2.2. Good work, dude - even if I don't actually play with GL I'm much happier these exist now.

These low poly MD2s fit much better with the style and graphics of SRB2, Great work.

Well, I did not see this coming. Been working on a low-poly pack myself, I hope that doesn't cause any issue.

Oh my god
I know many people consider it a bad game, but Sonic R holds so many wonderful childhood memories that I can't bring myself to not love it. This model pack actually completes me. I worked out how to get Software mode working on my computer again and since then I haven't touched OGL other than to test my mods' compatibility, but this really makes me want to use both interchangeably. The animations are really smooth, the shading (oh my god the SHADING) is spot on, and they both complement the SRB2 style and reflect the Saturn style really well. I went so far as to delete my old MD2 folder entirely; if ever I turn on GR_MD2 1, these models are the only ones I only want to see. 10/10. |

I guess I'll use OpenGL as default renderer from now on then.
These models are amazing, I love them. I also love the fact that the performance drops are barely even there thanks to low poly, so I could even let rings MD2s on without worrying too much. I absolutely adore that Silver model, too! Though I do want to report that TailsCD's swimming is broken, so you might want to just paste the flying animation ontop of it as a fix. |

Thank you guys very much for the support! I'm trying to get updates/fixes out quick. I've whipped up some better chaos emeralds today to better fit the aesthetic.
I've also removed rings from being rendered as models as most games at the time would have devoted sprites to something that was that much spammed.

Awesome! These are really a perfect match for SRB2's aesthetic; think I'm gonna have to play like this from now on, haha.

Sometimes I sprite "things"
|
Now this is what are WAITING for , those models consume few resources in the pc/laptop , I like so much Sonic Jam models, that retro moments, and in my favorite game, SRB2? wow. I'll use these models forever!, anyway, with this you make it seem easy to do MD2 models, specially with starters.

Oh wow, the MD2s look cute as heck, i wish i could try them, but OGL just shows an entire black screen for me, does anyone know how to fix that? it would be really appreciated if someone tells me how.
