Because I like to, dammit! :P

I like to run the PSX and cd players with the lid open, its fun!
 
Well, if I remember from reading a Dreamcast modding guide, that kind of stuff is done using an L-shaped metal rod thing and a spring, usually at the opening/closing gear/axis. The Gamecube should have something similar to that. Of course, I can't confirm, since I don't even have one myself XD
 
You'd probably have to tape down whatever switch inside recognizes that the lid is close. I did a similar thing with my Sega Saturn to make the disc swapping trick easier. In fact, the entire top half of the Saturn is now gone; the system doesn't care since that switch is down. :P
 
I'm Not Sure you can I was looking at my Cube one day because I was bored. I don't think you can access that area. One thing though, Seriously, Why would you want to do that? :)
 
I already said why I would want to do that.

You might be able to access the area with one of those twist ties.. although.. I dont know where the switch is..
