The character sprites in Star Ocean for the Super Famicom, the effort put into the specific graphics and sprites, makes me sad the US didn't see an official release.

Yeah, the Sonic battle sprites were made nicely, yet no high res..... So, it wouldn't be a sprite I would preffer.
