Hello everyone, this is my first level. I decided to do a match type level because i don't think i'd be that good at making Single Player, or Co-Op levels. I'd love some constructive critisism on how to make it better. Anyway Enjoy ^^

P.S. The images make the level darker than it actually is...

Right to get the first thing out of the way with, the level is too flat, by that i mean there no features. try making some actual trees and make it a bit brighter in some areas also a small water feature will make it look better. as for the things try to spread them out a bit more. ill give you some more feed back later.

Thanks for the reply. I'll do what you said and make it a bit brighter, aswell as making more scenery, not flat and stuff. Thanks again.

Generally you don't want flat, because then the match just becomes a generic shootout. Having walls and buildings (etc. etc.) adds for some shelter and scenery, making the game a bit more strategic and interesting.

Just be sure not to make it too cluttered either, that's no better than a flat map. ;)

Thanks Blue Warrior, and really ash? Heh... I might make it a tad bigger so i can add more things in like shelter and things like the suggestions said. Thanks for all the suggestions guys i really appreciate it (did i spell that right?)

From that screenshot of the water, I think you need to make the water more realistic. Here is something I did a while back, it looks realistic because its not at ground level.

It doesn't have to look like mine at all, but don't let it be at ground level.

I hope i'm allowed to double post to post an update on my map.

New Download: See first post. Enjoy!

Comments and critisism would be preferred.

Err one problem, double post = ok you can get away with
Triple post = trouble but seeming that your new i think you might get away with it this time but from now on use the edit button more.

And yes after testing out Hetor's beta then yea ill test your update ok?

I'm not that new, and i had the idea a double/triple post has to be about in 4 or 5 hours for it to be a double/triple post. Atleast that's what it is on other forums. The double post was an update of my level, and i've seen people do that alot on here. Anyway, hope to hear from you after you've tested it.

Delete uneeded post, and repost, tada, no edit button needed.

On the subject of double posting, it's fine if you have a good reason to. The only reason that really comes to mind is when you have an update for your something. If you need to add on to something you said five minutes ago, editing your post or a delete-n-repost is the better choice.

As for your level, I really liked how it wasn't cramped like most first levels. That was awesome. However, it was kinda empty. There wasn't any substance to keep me interested. You might want to put in more trees, maybe even a few hills.

In any case, your first level is more about figuring out what works and what doesn't in SRB2, as well as familiarizing yourself with the editor. Don't sweat it if you're not making a worthwhile end-product; you're not expected to.

Thansk for the feedback, when i tried doing hills three times, it kept screwing up my map and i got stuck everywhere, i think i might of kept doing thok barriers from the way i was doing it i'm not sure, but still i'll have another go and try different ways. And i'll add more to the map (might make it a tad bigger(again) to fit more things on) and i'll release the updated map sometime later. Thanks again.

I can't stress this enough: It's normal to have problems with your first map. I specifically remember trying to do something with springs on my first map but not being able to because there was a huge graphical glitch.

Maybe I can help; what map editor are you using? Doom Builder? SRB2 Doom Builder? Wad Author?

SRB2 Doom Builder. Also is it possible to create your own weather effects? Cause I might make it rain leaves (because it's called Leafy Forest) I thought it'd make a good effect. Like not too hard rain, quite soft like it's leaves falling from a tree.

You would have to make sprites for that I think, but using SOCing, you could get tha effect.
