Character sprites

I've been thinking about making a character WAD but I need to know how to make the actual sprites for the character. I've searched around the internet but can't find anything.

Um... by drawing them?

I'm not sure what your asking; sprites are image files that are put inside a wad that do not have any required sizes.

Making character sprites will pretty much require practicing your skills with art and pixel art in general. There isn't much to say about it, other than needing to get a Doom WAD editor (such as XWE, or Slade), and following the basics of this tutorial.

Yeah I'm pretty much talking about a good program to use and how to actually put them in the file. Because there honestly doesn't seem to be much detail about that on the wiki or anywhere I've looked.

I use GIMP and paint.net for creating sprites, and SLADE for making an WAD.

To put them in the file using SLADE, you have to put them in order (as in, A frames, and then B frames, and so on) in front of S_SKIN. Then, select all of the frames you put in and right-click, and select "Convert To...". Then, set it to convert to the Doom graphic format under the "Sonic (SRB2)" palette.
