Oh, you developers are so sneaky! I found something in the special stages!

If you get shot by another player in Special Stages, Blue Spheres come out! They even have their original sound from S3&K!

I think i know!

1. To see what would happen.
2. Lotsa rings = Match-like
3. Boredom/Accidental
 
Maybe experimenting. You never know what could happen.

Or it might just be them Ideya (is that how you spell it?) spheres from NiGHTs, after all, the special stages were intended to become NiGHTs stages but just weren't finished in time for 2.0.

wow i know! they were proably trying to do the emerald stages in S3&K!

if im not then all i think is an SRB2 Birthday party in game....witht the ballons and all...

No, Ideya have stars inside. They could be BLUE CHIPS though. You got your words mixed up. (Btw, i'm a NiGHTS fan. :P)
