If you are really terrible at spriting, decent at programming, and can't find sprite rips or models to base them off of, is it still a bad thing to publicly request sprites for a project?
 
I assume the thing considered bad here is bluntly asking for stuff to be made for you (while throwing in some excuses to spice it up). If you are decent at programming but suck at spriting, I doubt it's wrong to ask for a collab.

Basically this, though as with any project you'll need proof you've started.

Collabs in general tend to live on IRC because of the quicker communication, though, so that's part of why you usually don't see that stuff here.
