Sonic Mania

Well, this certainly was a completely unexpected surprise.
It looks smooth, the music we've heard so far is amazing, it sure is shaping up to be a nice 2D Sonic game already and makes me wonder what the future will hold for these guys and these kind of games.

The only two things that annoy me are Green Hill Zone, which is just overused, and no playable Amy Rose. I absolutely loved her moveset in Advance 1 (and then in the romhacks of the classics).

I'm usually reserved about new games until I can see some fair reviews. Though this looks really fun and colourful, just like the classics, on which my time was well spent years ago.

I seriously hope they tone down on the saturation on the game, the colors really strained my eyes when watching the trailer. Comparing it to the footage of Sonic 1-3, I found it harder to keep track of where the backdrop was at and where the main level layout was at times.

I have to agree about this point -- and this seems to be a trend in modern games. I can't remember what I was playing recently, but I was trying to jump onto a platform that was ACTUALLY THE BACKGROUND. Ugh.

I think the lack of a limited color palette makes the artists go overboard.

Sega embracing something like this is a great development, but so far this game is looking like a Sonic version of Major Magnet. And that's not always a good thing.

Gotta love the fluid animation. Especially the title screen animation. I hope Fang gets involved in the plot.

Hey this looks great actually, Although i was kind of hoping to see some SA2 Sequel or Some Sonic game with gameplay elements similar to it, But still not bad .

Agreed, other than Sonic CD, most Sonic games tended to choose 2-3 main colors for a level and stick with them.

Green Hill Zone - Green, Brown, Blue
Marble Zone - Purple, Green(ish), Red
Spring Yard Zone - Brown, Purple, Green

Chemical Plant - Grey, Purple, Blue
Casino Night - Black, Red, Blue

I could see that the colors might hurt some people's eyes, but I didn't have any problem distinguishing the foreground from the background. Honestly the game's visual style is pretty similar to Sonic CD, and that was about as disorienting as classic Sonic got.

Anyway, bout fuckin time lmao. No Wii U release is stupid though.

Let's consider the LAST Sonic game on the Wii U, then let's consider the latest game on the Wii U. Maybe SEGA knows that the Wii U might not work with 100% of the game. On the other hand maybe there were some licensing disputes or something behind the scenes with SEGA and Nintendo.

Edit: Or Fres can completely blow my assumptions out the water.

Retro Engine was never ported to it. Lots of engines aren't, either because of the lower specs, or because getting development kits from Nintendo is a lot harder than the others.

Don't worry, if Mania does well Sega will hire a third party to port the game(but not the base engine for general use) to the WiiU, and then hire someone else to port the WiiU port to NX. It's the Sega way!

Seeing as Christian Whitehead said Mania will be longer than Generations, I think we'll get 6-8 original zones and 6-8 remixed zones, and the game will be priced at $30-45 USD. I mean personally the price doesn't matter to me, I'll preorder it on Steam the minute they go up. It's interesting to me that the elemental sheilds and combine ring are coming back.

I highly enjoy the little things in this video that bring it all together, from the match cuts on editing used, to the specific clips of gameplay presented, showing off multiple gimmicks from the game such as the return of the gravity launcher whatever it is called seen at approximately 1:15 something which from memory hasn't been used since Sonic 3? And even the cute things such as noticing the island in the background is Sonic's head, and the drop dash adding a whole new type of flow to the game to keep the pace. I'm very much so excited to see where this might go.

Really looking toward to this one!
Sonic 3 and Knuckles was my first and still is my favorite Sonic game. 3D Sonic is just not at the same level as the classics.
And that music...If this is what the soundtrack is gonna sound like I am sold.

Tee Lopes is the composer for the soundtrack. He's done fan remixes for Sonic in the past, including the soundtrack for Sonic 2 HD.

Unless you know this already then yeah, it's looking like Major Magnet if only because both that and Mania are developed/being developed by PagodaWest Games. I can see where you're coming from, about the color thing

I'm all for this game being ported to 3DS. If Taxman is claiming that this is longer than Generations too, then I won't get off my 3DS for a while. Y'know, in hoping that it's good, which in this case, I'm not doubting
