What is your guys opinion on the new message board so far?

Pretty snazzy. I've been through three iterations of this board now (I joined when it was on, I believe, phpBB), and this is likely the best one yet.

How did you find out about the srb2 message board and why did you join?

I found this place way back in 2005 by way of my friend Andy. I met him in a SRB2 netgame, we had begun chatting regularly in an instant messenger (I forget if it was MSN or Yahoo), and he told me something along the line of "did you know there's a forum?" I feel old.

Welcome to the New SRB2 Message Board

I don't come around here often, so I had no idea this upgrade was going to happen. Imagine my shock when I came back and the forum looked like this. I like it. Welcome to a new age, SRB2 forums.

    OpenGL renderer overhaul progress

The unfortunate truth is that in order to grow a piece of software, sometimes you have to stop supporting older hardware and software APIs. Carry on toward the future, SRB2 devs.

    OpenGL renderer overhaul progress

Regardless of pallet shenanigans, as a programmer with limited graphics programming experience, I'd like to say thank you for taking the time to optimize the OpenGL mode. I'm just glad someone's doing it.

What kind of advantage could video games give?

Video games can certainly teach about concepts you normally wouldn't think about. As a random example, I learned a lot about objectivism by way of Bioshock. The game itself doesn't really go out of it's way to teach you about it, but you get the idea when you pay attention to dialogues from...

Easy compiling of SRB2 with CMake

In this case, compiling is the process of converting the source code (written in mostly C), into binary code that a computer can read, using a specialized program called a compiler. Anyone with knowledge of XCode and little research on CMake could compile an OSX version.

A question related to SRB2's graphic engine

Not exactly sure what you're asking for either. Ken Silvermans' Build engine was similar to the Doom engine, except it used portals for rendering instead of precompiled BSPs, thus allowing for things like movable geometry.

    Linux builds?

Is there a way to download the assets (srb2.srb, etc.) without having to run the installer? This seems to be one of the main issues to running it on linux.

Sonic Doom 2 WADs Still Work!

    Does SD2 work with FreeDoom?

Why Do People Want SRB2 Ports?

The same reason there's ports of Doom for everything with a screen and a processor. It's neat, and just the fact that it's possible to do, due to the GPL'd source code.

    Doom Legacy is Illegal

Assuming Doom Legacy is only under the GPL, you could make commercial games with it, however you'd still have to release the source code. ZDoom, on the other hand, contains code from the Build engine and FMOD and is overall a mess in terms of licensing.

Questions Regarding Sonic Team Junior's History

Stealth worked on SRB2 at one point, didn't he? What happened with that?

Call for Testing: SDL2 Windows Build (faster software!)

Here are my machine's stats. I haven't read this thread at all, so sorry for repeats of information Works great. The mouse feels more responsive, but the sensitivity is much slower. Game runs much better than srb2win does in software mode. Speed is basically on par with OpenGL mode. I will try...

Removing CD Music from engine interface

CD music in a game made sense in the days of Quake, but not really anymore. I say remove it.

    What is $$$.sav file?

Hmm, interesting. Why does SRB2 need to write a file for this information, anyway? Instead of, say, storing it in a memory location.

    Looking for people from 2008-2009

I'm mostly a lurker as well. I've been here since 2005? Man it's been a long time. I know it's a long shot, but anyone know what happened to Andy?

    SRB2 Dreamcast boxart.

Oh man, I still have these print outs in a jewel case with the burned CD. It was definitely version 1.08. Thanks for the nostalgia guys.

Should SRB2 be moved to the ZDoom engine?

Honestly at that point it may as well be a whole new game. I see why people suggest moving to another Doom port instead of an different engine altogether (it keeps things mostly similar). I honestly believe that if SRB2 did switch engines (which would set the game back considerably), another...
