software's colors pop out more because of the game's palette of 256 colors (so the game has to get creative with the colors it uses), opengl has infinite colors, and while that might seem like a good thing (i mean, some do prefer that), it means opengl's colors will come out more muted and less...

opengl looks bland and lifeless, software makes the game more cartoony and colors pop out more. opengl gives me higher raw fps but software is more consistent (some areas like in the massive thz1 goop lake i get 15 fps on open gl and 25-30 with software) overall i prefer software.
