It's a sort of anti-cheat, custom characters...

It's a sort of anti-cheat, custom characters usually modify the way the game plays, so unless that custom WAD uses it's own gamedata files you can't save game with it.

I kinda agree with this, SRB2's controls aren't confusing, they're very similar to what we're already used to from most Sonic games or even 3rd person platformers in general, It's just the mouselook.
